D&D 5E (2014) Convince me we're doing the Warlock wrong

New invocations : Icy Skewer: If you hit with your pact blade your opponent has disadvantage on attacks against you until the end of your next turn. Piercing Shard: Your attack with your pact blade does additional frost and psychic damage equal to your charisma modifier if you hit. You are...

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me we're doing the Warlock wrong

However those "clarifications" are just their thoughts and/or how they would call it in a game. Many players don't care about or don't use how those two folks would call it at the table. Until there is an official errata feel free call it as you see fit. And I could see the case of official...

    D&D 5E (2014) Making a magic item.

I'm one of the G.I.s near Ramstein so definitely no problem playing with them. :) I've tried posting here in the lfg section, on reddit, and tried meetup. I did find a couple of pathfinder players and some star wars saga/EotE players last year but a bunch of us have deployed/moved since...

    D&D 5E (2014) Making a magic item.

Well if the player is cool with it then I won't judge. I've just seen too many screw the paladin stories so it raised a red flag with me. But it sounds like you are all having fun so I'm envious as I'm still looking for a game. :) happy gaming!

D&D 5E (2014) I believe a slow and light product release can cause more harm in the long run.

Or the same minority constantly bringing it up hoping to be the squeaky wheel...

D&D 5E (2014) Recommended magic item creation alternative rules?

How do you (as a DM) define useful though and is it across the board? Would a wizard crafting a magic great sword do it cheaper because the weapon isn't useful for him? Would it be more expensive for a gish to create? Just seeking a little clarification to help answer your question.

D&D 5E (2014) Backgrounds and other personality aides continually through your levels?

Those are the sort of things that develop from play. I would be hesitant to have backgrounds say X happens at Y level. What if the stories the players have told make no sense for that? I can certainly understand wanting backgrounds to stay relevant throught a career but I think things are...

    D&D 5E (2014) Making a magic item.

DM madethe call so it looks like you have your answer. I really don't see anything wrong withthat call. As a paladin player though I'd be very concerned about the DM ruli g that I lost my paladin powers because of lycanthropy. I'm curious what the thought process behind that was.

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me we're doing the Warlock wrong

some very goods are brought up by you and some others. Hex is fairly reliable, but wont always be there so I'd put it just behind superiority dice and definitely behind smite or sneak attack but not in this sucks sense. The fighter also gets action surge, better armor, and higher hp. I don't...

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me we're doing the Warlock wrong

I find it odd that you can add cha mod damage to a cantrip at level two but have to wait until lvl 12 to add it to melee. I think they should change the life drinker evocation to a temp hp or healing on every hit deal and create a new evocation allowing blade locks to get cha mod to damage...

    D&D 5E (2014) Avenger in 4th to 5th

Personally I would be very hesitant to allow anyone to use 2h weapons with Dex. It's the best stat as is. Give the Str characters something to be unique.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Modifying Classes & Spell-less Rangers

There's nothing saying that the rangers poultices are 100% mundane. The ranger is spell-less, not magical-less. It's easy enough to beleive that when the ranger makes a poultice it has a small amount of magic in it that allows things to work. If anyone else puts those herbs together it works...

    D&D 5E (2014) "Jedi" type spells

I made a jedi class based off of the warlock. It's still rough around the edges, but it's a good start. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1-e4eqKkYzZRV9hakNvcjkxX0k&authuser=0

    D&D 5E (2014) Magic Items: DMs Thoughts.

Because a longsword hits harder than a shortsword in DnD physics. But the difference isn't enough to make one choice non viable. Perhaps at your table they always take the most mechanically effective option that doesn't equate to most people. It says more about the folks you play with over...

    D&D 5E (2014) Magic Items: DMs Thoughts.

He's making himself worse by an average of 1pt of damage per attack. 2pts max and what, 4pts max on a crit. Is that really so horrible that it's a "trap" or so behind the cutting edge that he'd be a fool to do it? I don't think so.

    D&D 5E (2014) Magic Items: DMs Thoughts.

Truthfully flavor doesn't have to come at the cost of effectiveness, but part of the weapons flavor is it's mechanical difference. The bolded part is the crux of the issue to me. It's a player issue and not a character issue. For a character the longsword may be the most effective, but...

    D&D 5E (2014) Magic Items: DMs Thoughts.

I still lol at the concept of "trap options". If something isn't the best or tied for 2nd it's automatically a "trap option". We can't have flavor around here, no sir. Everything has to be the best or it's a trap.

    D&D 5E (2014) Second Wind Regeneration

I'd say the options are: 1) Scratch your head since your DM (or you as the DM) has common sense enough for this not to be a problem. 2) Don't play with rules mongering twits who believe the rules are sacrosanct and have to followed like the a religion.

D&D 5E (2014) Followup on "Everyone Starts at First Level"

You're making the mistake of assuming that the experience table and awards are set in stone. If the DM was handing out 50% or 20% experience it would take several combats and adventures for that character to reach 4th or 5th. And don't forget that many games level at DMs discretion. So a new...

D&D 5E (2014) Followup on "Everyone Starts at First Level"

That's an entirely different factor to the campaign. In a slower leveling game 1 to 6 could be several months of play time. I wouldn't be shocked to see a good amount of overlap between the organic character camp and the slow leveling camp though.
