I really think this thread has begun to get silly/ridiculous.
For one thing, it seems a lot of people don't quite understand/agree on how the feat even works. For another thing, I'm completely convinced that my initial opinion on this feat will continue to be my opinion on it forever.
I mean...
Well yeah, you'd get more spells per day, but whereas a wizard gets a given spell level at (generally) 2x-1 level (where x = the spell level), a sorceror gets the new spell level at 2x level.
So basically, a wizard gets (for example) to cast 4th level spells at 7th level, and a sorceror waits...
I think maybe the Bahdee carried it, but then the black (almost blue) guy took it to mow down the jungle, in a rage of fury, trying to destroy the predator. THAT is the mini-gun, right??
My recommendations:
1.) Trivial Puruit. C'mon, this game is a classic. It's not fun if you're the only one who can answer any questions, though.
2.) Clue. Very easy to win this game, especially if you are playing with someone who has >some< kind of ego. Just do everything you can to...
At first I totally agreed with you. But, isn't this the kind of strategy that helped put TSR under? Let's see, Birthright, Spelljammer, Planescape, Dark Sun, Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, Hollow World, Al-Qa(fricken)dim, etc. etc.
True, very true.
In addition, the Bahdee had the best line in the movie, if you ask me... I don't remember the characters' names, but here's the line:
[single guy in movie who wasn't built like an olympic bodybuilder]: You're bleedin'.
[The Bahdee]: I ain't got time to bleed.
[single guy in...
To the original poster, I gotta say it's great that you're trying to bring him into our hobby.
Bu-u-ut... If you are truly afraid to speak of it to him on open terms (afraid of the 'stereotype,' which frankly I don't really think exists anymore), then maybe he's just not the type who would be...
If S&S bought it, my sense of free-market capitalism tells me the whole d20 thing would fall apart. I'd like to keep it competitive, but if S&S bought D&D, they would pretty much be the be-all-end-all of 3e (to a lot of people). I think AEG and their authors have shown a lot of promise...
How about a really really old gnome fighter (although ranger would be better for the extra skills you'd get thanks to your INT)? Or an old half-orc barbarian? Old, think old!
Maybe he was imprisoned his whole life, and can only start his career as an old, curmudgeony barbarian. Might be...
As a Minnesotan, I think I'm qualified to voice up on this one. Ventura is on his way out the door. His term is almost up, and he's decided not to run again (I think the whole thing has worn him out). Anything worth knowing about him is probably available online somewhere; not that much of...
My group plays on sofas & chairs around a coffee table. I admit, it does get bothersome with how many dice, books and/or papers we lose, but that'smost likely because we have entirely too many dice, books and/or papers in our vicinity.
But we all smoke, so we definitely need a table. I would...
Well, not to be nit-picky, but actually, extra damage dice are occasionally multiplied, in the case of 'bursting' weapons. Therefore, a +1 shocking burst greataxe does 1d12+1d6+1 on a normal hit, and 3d12+1d6+2d10+3 on a critical hit.
Not relevant to the topic at hand, just a fact.:)
Well, if you don't think any feats in D&D are broken (3rd party or no ~ I'm not familiar with Bastion Press's material), then we probably disagree on a lot of things. I'm content to agree to disagree.:p
As far as having an issue with a class, speaking only for myself, I don't, in fact I prefer...
I totally agree. Of all the SL books I've actually bought (all except Wise & Wicked, and Divine & Defeated ~ yes ALL :p), I think this one was the weakest.
As was the argument for the first Creature Catalogue, they are kind of "just another humanoid race of monsters." They have all kinds of...
Trust me, the gnomes thing is no biggie. I have a player playing a gnome (he really loves his character) in the SL. He came from a very small woodland settlement in Darakeene. Most people assume he's a halfling.
You can run the world with gnomes in it; it just helps to make them very rare...
Not that I have ever done such a thing, but I have heard that certain mind-altering substances of an herbal sort have been known to inspire creativity, especially in campaign and/or possibly adventure design.
Note: I am not condoning such a thing. I'm just bringing up the reality that it has...
I would go with fighter/wiz, simply because your spell selection will be better, and the INT will help you with skills (and things like expertise). Furthermore, as I've already stated, I would go specialist.
I too would probably go with item creation feats, because as a fighter, you could use...
I have to admit all the reference books you are going to want really add up (financially as well as textually), but the books themselves are cheaper (per page) than any WotC product out there, by a lot IMO. For example, I got the huge campaign sourcebook for under $25, and you can get Warrens...
Yeah, but the point could be made that while only granting you one more spell, it's very likely that will be a very _high level_ spell, which of course are way more valuable to you when you _do_ finally get to those high levels.
Personally, I would take this feat in a heartbeat; but IOC we...
