Spellcasting Prodigy - Whats the beef?

I have to admit to not knowing the exact wording of the feat either... but ever since the $40 FRCS came out (which I didn't buy), I kept hearing rants along the lines of "the feat is broken because there is no logical reason a player wouldn't choose it!" Without even knowing the specifics of...

    Is Forgotten Realms worth it?

I voted no. I could afford the book(s) myself with no problem, but after reading about how everything was so broken rule-wise (spellcasting prodigy, anyone?) I decided to save the $40+. If you want to play in a campaign world that has been played and played and played and played and played...

    So why doesn't Hasbro/WOTC....?

You know, honest to God, I think that ad would work. In fact, I think if they just made it as mysterious and cryptic as they could, it would work out to the product's advantage. If they came out and just showed a bunch of people playing D&D, I don't think it would suddenly sell off the...

    DMs: Are you a "plot-nazi"?

I could be wrong but I think the most important thing about being the DM (the 'art' as it were), is in the details. I think it's probably most important to make everything realistic (as far as possible), and logical. Also, telling something very minor (like the dress of a passing nobleman)...

    So why doesn't Hasbro/WOTC....?

I agree that WotC should probably (eventually) start a marketing plan, but advertising D&D on MTV??? Gah? Yo man datz Cray Zay. Do you honestly think the stupid little wanna-be's (probably mostly chicks around 12-14 years old) who watch Carson Daily (daily) on TRL are going to be able to...

[Hit Points - Minor Rant] How few is too few?

What we do in our campaign is that when you roll for hit points, you simply roll 2 of the dice (at once), and keep the higher roll. No rerolls; ever. I also want to point out that if you don't have a predefined ruleset about this (or anything else in character development), you are being...

    Also in need of inspiration...

Well, first I was going to say go rogue then assassin, but I agree that you probably need healing. How about a gnomish rogue/druid, who specializes in lock-picking rather than stealth (since the rangers will probably handle that anyway)? So he's kind of a technical guy, but he lives...

If you wanted to create the classic fighter/mage, what Feats would you take?

I would go with a mithril shirt, and become an evoker rather than a mage. Maybe this breaks the rules of the thread, but I assume you are so interested because you want to make a character along these lines (?). But the extra spell each level will come in very handy, evokation spells are...

[Believe it or not, ontopic] Mike Myers on "Inside the Actors Studio"

You're right. I misspoke. I meant to say he is the biggest nerd in Hollywood right now ("big" being in terms of popularity/name-recognition). Woody Allen might be more famous overall, but he was probably less of a geek as well, even in his prime. I mean, the guy was into baseball, jazz, and...

[Believe it or not, ontopic] Mike Myers on "Inside the Actors Studio"

I have to chime in that none of the people I game with fit into the mold of 'typical gamer.' Granted, they are not as hard-core a gamer as I am (or any of us who frequent this board), but I can honestly say that I definitely don't fit into the nerd mold either. My gamer friends and I hang out...

    Ideal Party Make-up.

Ok, here is (IMHO) the ultimate 6-person party, dominant in combat, adventuring, and intrigue, all: 1 human fighter 1 half-orc fighter 1 human cleric of Pelor 1 human cleric of Heironeous or St. Cuthbert 1 human wizard (mage, evoker, or diviner) 1 halfling rogue Forget the bards and rangers...

Will the last person to leave WOTC please turn out the lights...

Wow, this is the best news I've ever heard regarding this subject. My main worry (up until now) was that Hasbro would evebtually sell off the D&D liscence entirely to another (3rd) party, who would then of course promptly revamp the entire system and come out with a 4th edition. Myself having...

    Ripping apart the ELH...

I agree with you sir. If I pay $40 for a book (roughly the equivalent price of a very technical and sophisticated college textbook, IIRC), then it should at least be free from glaring logical and/or grammatical errors. I keep hearing that we should expect mistakes from a big publisher like...

What world should I run? Hunt, K of K or SL?

Without having read the entire thread, I gotta chime in. :) I voted for Scarred Lands. Escpecially considering you skipped right over 2e. To me, it's as if SL takes over right where 1e left off, albeit probably more unique and intriguing (it gives me the same sense of wonder that 1e D&D did...

    The Crunch vs. Fluff poll

I voted for "mostly fluff." Why? Simply because I have now accumulated more rules than I will EVER use in any game; heck I own more rules that I have ruled out than ones I will actually use. Point being, as another poster said, I have enough 'crunchy' rules. I would be way more psyched to...

Pissed Druid - Need some help

I just can't help but thinking... Why didn't the wizard (who presumably really wanted to get that fighter out of the way) just turn the fighter into something a little bit more harmless than a tiger? Like, oh I don't know, maybe a toad? Too cliche? :)

Which Campaign Settings do you own?

I have both the SL and Dragonstar campaign sourcebooks, but I ordered them from amazon.com and they are at my parents house 150 miles away, so I won't be able to even see them until this weekend. :) That didn't stop me from voting, however. :p

    [OT] www.dmb-bustedstuff.com

I am into jazz, and blues to a lesser extent, and I can certainly understand the connection the DMB has with jazz. It has jazz-like sound to it, in that it's often free-flowing. But on another note. All I gotta say is: RUSH. Now there is a great band. 3 guys who sound like 4.

Why is Dragonlance Your Least Favorite Setting?

See, this is really an argument I don't get. A lot of us played the older (pre-prequels) Star Wars RPG, and doesn't this argument hold the exact same quantity of water (:p) for that setting? Yet people still seem to love the old Star Wars RPG (myself included).
