Tips on playing a Barbarian for the first time

I don't know if I completely agree that it's a no-brainer to use a big two-hander. Granted, the 1.5x damage is always good to have, but being restricted to only medium armor, you might want to have a shield. You can't deal out damage if you're dead. Just a thought.

    non PHB races

Goblin wizard with a couple of levels of rogue thrown in for good measure. Took place in a campaign where goblins were generally accepted in the slums of most cities. It was neato.

    Rate the Races

Yes. Which is exactly why dwarves are cool.

(Multi. VS Straight Classing) How do you take your Levels?

Well currently I am running a fighter2/transmuter3, and I am really wondering where to put the character's next levels because of the spell level thing. Probably I will give him 4 total levels of fighter (for specialization) and the rest wizard, but if I think the campaign will get to epic...

    Who uses a Ranseur?

Well, I know what I consider the stereotypical ranseur-using race, and I'll tell ya why to boot. Wolfen. Or, if your campaign doesn't have a wolfen race, any lionine-type will suffice. The reason being (at least the only one I can think of at the moment, not that there really is one): ever...

    Dragon Vs Dungeon magazine

Yes, that is also pretty much the exact kind of thing I am looking for in Dragon as well. Please, no more magic items, PrC's, even spells are a little stale to me these days (I buy d20 books for that kind of thing). We need more DM/player advice articles, much like what we've seen in the past...

    Dragon Vs Dungeon magazine

Interesting viewpoints, Eric. I would have to say I agree with you on all but the 'mixed elements of crunch/fluff,' but I discussed that already. :D I too, never really got the excitement over Dungeoncraft articles (but are they still putting those out?) If, in the swashbuckling issue, the...

    Dragon Vs Dungeon magazine

Yes, it's possible. I'll be the first to admit that, according to most rpg-related internet "polls" I've seen, I'm clearly in the minority of gamers, because I don't feel that "crunchier = better." I vastly prefer reading about how to accomplish something in terms of the game itself, rather...

    Dragon Vs Dungeon magazine

I agree with Eric. I usually buy them (both) off the newsstand, although I too am seriously considering just subscribing to both. Dungeon, although a little pricey, has dramatically increased it's production quality over the past couple of years, and I still think it's one of the best d20...

    Alcohol and D&D

In my experience, alcohol is fine with the caveat that people can handle it. I guess it's been my personal preference not to drink while gaming (or maybe just have one or two) because if I get too intoxicated, it becomes very, very hard for me to keep track of the numbers involved, etc...

    OT - Console Game Systems

Heh. I think the cashier (think of the squeaky-voiced guy from the Simpsons and you'll have a relatively accurate image) was new. There was a copy of another PS2 game that he had scanned for some reason, and it looked like someone either returned it, or decided not to buy it for some reason...

OT - VOTE!!! - (US Citizens)

Nope. I also, am actually excercising my right (as opposed to simply sloth) not to vote. But for slightly different reasons. I used to hate non-voters, but now my apathy for American politics has reached new depths within me, and I feel differently. To say that we (Americans) live in a...

    OT - Console Game Systems

As a GameCube owner of several months now (I bought it when it First Debuted) I can second this. Eternal Darkness is the Absolute Best Video Game I Have Ever Played. Period. It's sooooo cool, especially if you are into D&D (I think). It will scare the pants off you (especially if you play it...

The Book of Vile Darkness - it is mine, review within

When someone says "I'm disgusted with the way WotC presented the arch-demons in the BoVD, but I always insist on using 'offical' WotC stats, without variation" is a lot like saying, "All I ever eat when I go out for dinner is steak, but this restaurant always serves my steak forzen and raw; what...

The Book of Vile Darkness - it is mine, review within

IMHO there is very little about Elminster that is not ridiculous, but that's just me. ;) Honestly, I don't think there are that many campaigns in the (real) world where characters even get to Epic levels. It seems to me that if a campaign involves PC's destroying gods and super-powerful...

Maybe I should pay attenion in class...

I can't figure out how your school can afford to have computers in the ENGLISH classrooms! I mean, what are they THERE for? Don't they use BOOKS anymore? ;) At my college, the only classes with computers (and consequently the only department with enough money to fund them) were the Business...

[OT, but exciting] Phillip Morris told to pay $28 BILLION

ForceUser, I agree with you that smoking is hazardous and stupid, will kill you, etc. (yet I do smoke occasionally ... go figure); but even IF they bring down PM, won't some other cigarette company spring up in its place? I mean, you do believe people in this supposedly free country have a...

[OT, but exciting] Phillip Morris told to pay $28 BILLION

I mean, 64 billion would make this old lady easily one of the wealthiest people on the planet. Think what that money could actually do if it went to helping ALL people with lung cancer. Plus, no matter how much money courts force Big Tobacco to pay, it's not like people are going to quit...

Societies: Lawful and Chaotic; What Are They?

Growing up in a Catholic parish, and going to Catholic school for 10.5 years, I can attest to this truth. :) But I think what makes it more lawful than anything else is the fact that there is this huge Singular Hierarchy, the likes of which no other religion has. In fact, one of my biggest...
