    Sorcerous Origin: Spellfire

Very interesting! I'm a little nervous about letting people drain artifacts, though. At the very least, there should be potential side-effects. Also, Fly is a 3rd level spell, shouldn't it take more than 3 Sorcery points to cast?

    D&D 5E (2014) The Multiverse is back....

Once again, Mouseferatu and I are on the same page here. These are statements I cannot, do not, and will not accept. And I feel strongly enough about it to keep it out of my gaming. It affects me like an intellectual stench. Briefly, in my own view (but it's a very traditional and...

    5E Psionicist (experiment)

Hmm. So it's a reactive teleport only. I'd be inclined to remove the invisibility and let it be used as an action as well. I'd be inclined to choose the type of weapon with the feat, or just restrict it to psychic. Or perhaps energy types are 'unlocked' depending on what other powers you know.

    5E Psionicist (experiment)

Sigh. Yeah. Hey - maybe psychoportation is a feat? The prereq is being able to manifest psionic abilities, and the result is that you expand your 'spell' list slightly? Or perhaps it's a third set of customization options. I don't see anything wrong in principle with a subclass that could...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Multiverse is back....

Hmm. Who on this thread is sticking fingers in their ears and screaming at the top of their lungs, in your view? I dislike the traditional D&D cosmology and tend to make up my own. This is a tantrum on my part?

    D&D 5E (2014) The Multiverse is back....

I'll admit my comment was rather thread-derailing and I regret making it. But I must protest that I in no way said that people who enjoy alignment and/or Planescape were or are evil. I was talking about adherence to a philosophy, which is something more sweeping than enjoying a game mechanic...

    5E Psionicist (experiment)

Very interesting! I like it very much. I'm a little surprised not to see any spells like Misty Step or Dimension Door, though. I realize there aren't enough teleportation spells to make a whole discipline, but perhaps they could be part of the Kineticist. Also, I dislike the whole Psionic...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Multiverse is back....

Must spread around xp, etc, but I just have to say, PREACH IT, brother! This nonsensical and sickening idea is a large part of the reason why the Great Wheel, and indeed D&D alignment in general, bugs me so much. I have my suspicions as to why (at least some) people take this dreck seriously...

Here you go. The second page of the thread is where the stuff I was referring to resides.

    D&D 5E (2014) The Multiverse is back....

...In a book written nearly 120 years ago, and building on existing legendary material. Granted that Stoker wove together a bunch of legends plus some stuff from his imagination, in a rather unique way. But it's become part of our culture, and entire genres of books and movies, in a way D&D...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Multiverse is back....

My own take is that I've despised the Great Wheel ever since I first saw it in the AD&D DMG appendix. I was a bookish lad and very fond of mythology, and the Giant Dinner Plate (as my group disparagingly refers to it) has no mythic resonance whatever. (YMMV, and so on.) And the names!! At...

[Arabian Nights] Tale of the Redeemable and the Unredeemed

I've got a Word document glossary that Aaron supplied for the original game, but I'm not sure how to share it?

    D&D 5E (2014) Cleric Domains in PHB

It's clear that several of the domains are going to need tweaking for certain gods. Like the Trickster poisoning ability... I just don't see a cleric of Garl Glittergold doing that, you know?

[Arabian Nights] Tale of the Redeemable and the Unredeemed

Sigh. If you've already read it, go back and take another look. I just noticed that I left off two whole sessions, and I've added them now. They are very relevant, as the game is going to pick up right where they left off!

    True20 Al-Qadim: Zakharan Nights (updated 6/21/06)

Narrator: Rain fell on the canvas above as I heard the name I was given at birth. Shuri, son of House Razan. The words resonated in my inner ear as loud as the words of my kinfolk when I was exiled, but this was a calling back, not a separation. It was a remembering and a birth through the...

    True20 Al-Qadim: Zakharan Nights (updated 6/21/06)

[Apologies for resurrecting a long-dead thread, but I left a couple sessions off, and they're necessary background for a PbP game about to start.] Narrator: Wherein begins the tale of "Between a Box and a Hot Place" Narrator: I do not trust any merchant farther than a scimitar, but Jamul was a...

D&D 5E (2014) Anything You Miss From Past Editions vs 5E?

Huh, never saw that done. How is that functionally different from taking one level of a class at a time? 5e is much the same way, since BAB is simply the proficiency bonus. Yes, I know how it was done - I was there. :) I'm just saying that 5e tries to use a unified chart for slots. We (as...

Critical Hit House Rule (and some thoughts on hit points and healing)

I've also been pondering using the exhaustion table for injuries, though I hadn't gotten as far as you have. It just makes sense to me. Another possible or additional approach: I seem to recall that half-hit-points is where the assumption gets made that damage is actually serious. Perhaps a...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e as an universal gaming engine ?

Definitely! Er, wow. GURPS and Fate Core are about as different as two games can possibly be, with extremely different play experiences. I'd suggest at least taking a look at Fate, you can even download the core rules for free, or look at the SRD online. Personally, I find it scratches my...
