    D&D General What Is NAP?

Was recently on the tenfootpole.org comments and kept seeing "NAP" thrown around as a term. Anybody know what means?

D&D General Things I Do To Make Wizards More Fun!

Thanks for your feedback. You seem to having kind of a tough time right now, based on the tenor of your statements. I really hope that turns around for you! Gotta say, I don't really like that. If you can just swap out your loadout every time, it has a few knock-on effects. 1) It devalues mid-...

D&D General Things I Do To Make Wizards More Fun!

Hey folks, So a little while ago, I put up another thread and invited folks to tell me why they think wizards are boring (if, in fact, they do so). There were some great responses, and I really enjoyed the back and forth of the various takes folks put up. There were a lot of sincere points made...

D&D General Funniest D&D "How Do I Talk To Boys" Ideas

Got someone playing a drow. She's having some romantic difficulties, and is going to go talk to her mom (high priestess of Lolth) about how to talk to men. Please give me your funniest ideas on how I can run this conversation. *Note: Using enchantment to obtain consent from someone in this...

Review / Remix: Everyday Heroes' "To Dethrone A Dictator"

REMIX: So first things, first, we need to revise the hook and the premise significantly. If we're going to be doing this over 10 levels (or around 30 sessions), we're going to want enough to power that gameplay. (Also, don't yell at me about the names; I don't speak any Bantu languages, so this...

D&D General Why Do You Think Wizards Are Boring?

Hey y'all, so my question here is that these seem like problems with other full casters, too? Druid and cleric both have prep casting, and both have the issue of having mostly concentration spells, while spamming cantrips every other round. Is there something uniquely bad about the wizard...

D&D General Why Do You Think Wizards Are Boring?

So full stop, my favorite class in the world is wizard. I absolutely love including them in my worlds, I like dropping them in as NPCs, and I love what they can do to and for players. But recently, I've heard from some folks who think wizards are boring. So if you think wizards are boring...

D&D 5E (2014) Non Linear Adventures and Challenge Rating/Enemy Strength

I think this is a separate conversation around why we don't change stuff on the players without letting them know. That's a false trilemma all on it's own, as several posts here have shown.

D&D 5E (2014) Non Linear Adventures and Challenge Rating/Enemy Strength

I don't think you even need to prioritize factions, necessarily. Let's consider that adult red dragon - Vorthinax, She Who Rages Against Death. Vorthinax is both adept with curse-magic, and suffering a terminal mental illness. The further along that disease progresses (use a catastrophe die...

D&D 5E (2014) Non Linear Adventures and Challenge Rating/Enemy Strength

That's a good point! I do have a question: does it still not work for you if there's a diegetic, telegraphed-to-the-PCs reason that an enemy gets stronger over time? In other words, if the bad guys are getting stronger regardless of the PCs' interactions, does that still run contra to your design?

D&D 5E (2014) Non Linear Adventures and Challenge Rating/Enemy Strength

Mechanically, that's a great way to do it, but I have had some rough experiences weaving that into the world. For example, if I tell the PCs that one of the adventures I've set up has an adult red dragon as a boss (via rumors, etc), then they know what to expect. If they wait to take that guy on...

Review / Remix: Everyday Heroes' "To Dethrone A Dictator"

Howdy y'all! I recently downloaded To Dethrone a Dictator by Evil Genius Games from DriveThruRPG. It's an adventure meant for their Everyday Heroes system, which I found quite interesting and refreshing (system review here). The adventure is 59 pages long, and available as Pay What You Want...

D&D 5E (2014) Non Linear Adventures and Challenge Rating/Enemy Strength

I'm not ignoring it, it's simply irrelevant to non-linear play. See, for example: The Toxic Wood Black Wyrm of Brandonsford Wyvern Songs As the PCs gain levels, they are able to engage with the higher-level content they've discovered that lies further out (or along different nodes, if you're...

D&D 5E (2014) Non Linear Adventures and Challenge Rating/Enemy Strength

Problem's been solved. See almost anything by Lazy Lich. Mostly consists of giving the PCs information and letting them make decisions.

D&D General Pandemic! Mechanics in D&D?

Yeah, I'm not really talking about using it to simulate the spread of diseases in-game, but rather as a way to model how the various factions in a game behave in a semi-organic way. I do need to track down Curse of the Crimson Throne for another reason, though, so I'll be sure to check out those...

Weird Wastelands - 3rd Party Review

No mention, sorry to say. My guess is that they looked at the 50+ races that already exist and went, "We're good."

D&D General Flip or Twist A D&D Cliche

The princess who is to be rescued is actually a villain, luring heroes to die to keep her Obsidian Soultower fueled.

D&D General Pandemic! Mechanics in D&D?

Hey, just played Pandemic for the first time in a decade, and it's mechanics for triggering outbreaks and intensification struck me as great inspiration for D&D. So great, frankly, that there is no way somebody hasn't already tried this. Has anyone seen.any attempts to use those mechanics as...
