    Dragonbane Post-Mortem

I have another suggestion for you Retreater, through unfortunately it’s probably impossible to implement. A peer to 4E D&D is WFRP 3e. It wasn’t massively popular at the time, but it’s my personal favourite of the lineage that goes WFRP > Star Wars > Genesis. The reason it comes to mind is that...

What bespoke RPG is actually really good for other types of campaigns?

The Pelgrane Press Dying Earth? It was reinterpreted as Skulduggery after they lost the license, and one of the included themes is politics.

    My "Savage" Experience

One of the nice things about the system, for me, is that the flow of bennies is a mechanism for influencing how pulp / gritty the game feels in play, and you can do it on the fly. You can set a feel for a particular campaign by being more or less generous as a baseline, then up that if the...

    My "Savage" Experience

I think I know which that fight was (takes place on landmass Two?). My players handled it fine, and they are not all tuned for combat. Quite the opposite. So it’s hard to say why your group are struggling. Some suggestions / questions? Did the two sides start out far enough apart that the PCs...

What TTRPG Is Perfect and Complete In One Volume?

13th Age was another game where the core book was very complete. We played a full campaign off just the core book and it was great fun. I know there is a second edition coming but I don’t know if that will also have a similar philosophy.

    Tell your overdue Kickstarter story

My worst examples are software related, and now I am very reluctant to fund development projects. Project Phoenix - over $1m in funds, currently 10 years late (Nov 2014), no updates for five years. Unsung Story - $660k funded, currently nine years late (July 2015). Abandoned by original...

What TTRPG Is Perfect and Complete In One Volume?

Rules Compendium D&D and Savage Worlds Adventure Edition were my first thoughts on this. RC is a full D&D edition in one fairly slim volume which is extremely impressive. While I got started with the BECMI boxes rather than this book the content is mostly the same and the nostalgia value is...

    Dragonbane Post-Mortem

One of the excellent modern dungeon / adventure board games does seem like the answer for this person’s wants. I know it isn’t the role-playing you want but with everything you have said over multiple threads I think your gaming tastes are basically incompatible. Find an online group to do...

    Sword & Sorcery RPGs 2024

GURPS Conan is still available from SJ Games in PDF as well, so no need to go to the secondary market. I agree that S&S is first about a style of game and feel of characters. For me, Savage Worlds really fits that bill nicely and the Fantasy Companion has a whole stack of guidance and new...

TTRPG conventions and events in Ireland & the UK?

There are also many small cons in mainland UK, too. Phil Masters keeps a fairly active list with some dates and details.

Payn's Ponderings~ Campaign settings and you?

First, some explanation of how we think about campaigns. There is the rules system, there is the genre, there is the campaign setting, and there is the premise. I personally prefer genre-flexible rule systems. My favourite systems are Savage Worlds, GURPS and Fate which are all genre flexible...

    My "Savage" Experience

Lost Colony was the very first add-on for SWADE and I think it shows. It is definitely one of their less refined offerings. But still better than many other first-party items in my opinion. It kind of suffers from the prime-movers being factions within the world, rather than the PCs. This...

    My "Savage" Experience

If you are just firing two shots then a multi-action is better as it uses less ammo that RoF2 and you would get your wild die twice. Where RoF 2 helps is with suppression and also you could make six shots if you multi-actioned as well, though you would need to have uber stats to pull that off...
