Peril - wherein RangerWickett reinvents the wheel

I believe I need to expand on my take a bit. I'm a fan of minimalistic design. I like when there are details and exceptions, but my firm rule is that they are to be reigned in. Limited to several choices, with glut and +1 bonuses removed. With special abilities using precise, single-sentence...

Peril - wherein RangerWickett reinvents the wheel

Hmm. Interesting, still too complicated. First, too many little and unimportant details. Propulsion? It's a bow, a ranged weapon. Great? It's just a replacement for two-handed. And so on. Second, mix of different styles in made up terms. Technical "propulsion" vs. comical "you just made me...

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2e: Actual Play Experience

May I have a look, too? I prefer 13th Age personally, but I would not mind learning about this.

Monte Cook Games’ Next Kickstarter Is Ptolus (for 5E and Cypher)

I agree that my experiences may be skewed by cRPG. Question - is there any online play example of Cypher-based dungeon delving? Note: The reason for my interest is that I would love to invest in Ptolus Kickstarter, however I would hate to purchase an elaborate paper press. And the Kickstarter...

Monte Cook Games’ Next Kickstarter Is Ptolus (for 5E and Cypher)

I see your points, it's just that paying stats to just try something, with the payment stat being also your hitponts, does not sit well with me. It really turned me off. Yes, there is the option of not paying but unless your character is extremely experienced, you will be seriously handicapped.

Monte Cook Games’ Next Kickstarter Is Ptolus (for 5E and Cypher)

How do you put d20 into Cypher system? I feel that design premises, heroics, adventure design (encounters) work differently (and I am really uncomfortable about same stats / pools used for actions and damage in a fantasy system created for dungeon delving). I played Torment, and really hated...

D&D 5E (2014) Epic Monsters: The Invisible Man

Link to the Project Gutenberg copy of the original story: https://www.gutenberg.org/files/5230/5230-h/5230-h.htm Note that the subject of the story suffers from escalating psychological issues - an inventor, a scientist, succumbs to paranoia (burning down the lab), obsession, petty criminal...

    D&D 5E (2014) Mythological Figures: Captain Nemo

I agree with LG alignment. Considering atrocities committed by the British in India (yes, it went both ways, but nobody asked the British to be there, right?), Nemo was entitled to acts of war (especially since he was actively pursued by British navy). Here's a link to a fantastically well...

D&D General Was The Witcher Inspired by an AD&D Campaign?

sigh The answer is a conditional YES. The reasons why students (or why it is sometimes a risky thing) should not be doing it, are covered by this article: Wikipedia:Academic use - Wikipedia The reason I linked PL Wiki page is simpler: The English version does not contain updated section on...

D&D General Was The Witcher Inspired by an AD&D Campaign?

As I have said above, he loves to play cat and mouse with his interviewers. My impression is that if you ask him a question that has been asked a thousand times before, or a question that he is not happy to answer for a personal reason, he is likely to provide an unreliable reply. So, please...

D&D General Was The Witcher Inspired by an AD&D Campaign?

All the more shame that you do not check sources before attacking a writer. Your words: ---- The Witcher series was nothing outside of Poland before CD Projekt Red got ahold of it. ---- The stories got translated into many languages before the games. Here is a link to the list of editions in...

D&D General Was The Witcher Inspired by an AD&D Campaign?

Trolling takes skill apparently. Quoting Wikipedia: Translations of his books and other derivative works[edit] Sapkowski's books have been translated into Czech, Georgian, Hungarian, Russian, Lithuanian, German, Spanish, French, Chinese, Ukrainian, Portuguese, Finnish, Slovak, Bulgarian...

D&D General Was The Witcher Inspired by an AD&D Campaign?

Sapkowski loves to play cat and mouse with people who ask him too many questions (just check his interviews over the span of thirty years, Wywiady – Andrzej Sapkowski Zone by John MacKanacky /PL version only).

Why not just rename the offending domain as Puppeteering. The Love themed spells should be IMHO about giving, sheltering and nurturing.

    A|State: Gothic Sci-fi Horror

Written by Malcolm Craig, the guy behind Cold City and Hot War, it was an attempt to create more elaborate and longer lasting setting. As all his pieces of work, it is of very high quality, beautifully laid out and presented. It was one of the settings that had a big city and the world outside...

D&D 3.x Jonathan Tweet: My Life with the Open Gaming License

The fantastic advantage of OGL is that games can live on and evolve further. 3.5E -> Pathfinder -> Pathfinder 2E 13th Age -> 13th Age Glorantha 13th Age -> King of Dungeons I've had an incredible run of 13th Age over a span of several years, and I will probably run it again (though probably...

Check Out This 43-Page Preview of the Unity RPG

The thing is that with Unity you get 120 pages of fluff first. Or, if you want to count setting information and covers, 136 pages of it. The actual game starts with Character Creation (chapter two) on page 134 (136 if you count the cover and dedication page). The book breakdown continued...

News Digest: White Wolf Dissolved, MORE New D&D Releases Announced, RPG Now Closing (kinda), and mor

Trippy-Hippy wrote... So basically, "the ends justify the means" (quote #1), and "a broken clock is good enough because it shows correct time twice a day" (quote #2). That's quite an immature approach, you know? We don't know if the Chechnya piece goes completely away - who knows, maybe in...
