Just give rapiers the versatile feature in return for the lower damage die.

Make the rapier a 1d6 damage weapon. Add the versatile (1d8) feature. This way, the rapier becomes the “best” option for two handed finesse combat, a “normal” option for one handing, and a no-go for two weapon fighting.

Heh, I understand what you mean about the wizard, but I'm just a huge fan of the 4e Swordmage. No 5e gish is even close to how good of a gish the Swordmage was, even after they re-introduced a few of its signature abilities, like Booming Blade.

Sounds interesting. I’ve never had the opportunity to play editions before 3rd (barring some computer games) so that nostalgia has no grip on me, but I’d be curious to know how this hacked 3d edition version plays in practice.

Just realizing that I’ve been pronouncing all words like grognard, bulette and tarrasque with their French pronunciation and apparently most people don’t! I did study some French in my youth, so I just default to the french pronunciation when I see a french -looking word.
