    D&D 5E (2024) The rapier problem

Yes, but the off-hand is used for balance and support in rapier combat, there clearly is a benefit in keeping an hand free. The versatile feature would be a simple way to represent this. Of course, you could make a unique feature for the rapier that increases your damage die if you keep a hand...

    D&D 5E (2024) The rapier problem

Just give rapiers the versatile feature in return for the lower damage die.

    D&D 5E (2024) The rapier problem

Make the rapier a 1d6 damage weapon. Add the versatile (1d8) feature. This way, the rapier becomes the “best” option for two handed finesse combat, a “normal” option for one handing, and a no-go for two weapon fighting.

D&D General Did D&D Die with TSR?

Considering I never played anything before 3.0, i'd be interested in knowing what I have been playing for almost 20 years :)

D&D General Thaco the angry clown... really?

First off, i prefaced by clarifying that nope, I'm not personally hurt by any of this. I'm no grognard, never played with them, don't think I ever will. So your entire first paragraph is pointless and based on either a lack on my ability to communicate, or on your reading comprehension. "Stop...

D&D General Thaco the angry clown... really?

In hindsight, if they had created (or will create, from now on) a series of humorous caricatures of different "generation" of gamers, from the oldskool grognard, to the third edition munchkin, to the 4e wargamer, to the 5e noob obsessed with politically correctness, I'd be totally ok with that :)

D&D General Thaco the angry clown... really?

Good for you and anyone else that shares your attitude. As I said in the post you quoted, there was no need to remind me of that. Other people in this very thread, some of them probably of "your" generation, didn't seem amused by Wotc calling people clowns.

D&D General Thaco the angry clown... really?

I'm not offended. I'm calling out someone (Wotc, in this case) that is acting like a petty bully on their behavior. I'm pretty sure most (mind: not all!) of the people who are having a laugh at this juvenile attempt at humor, would be much less amused if the mocking stereotyping was directed at...

D&D General Thaco the angry clown... really?

Yeah, this isn't great. I never played 2e or used Thaco, I'm not a grognard and I love seeing the game evolve, so I don't feel personally attacked by this, but calling someone a "clown" has become more and more insulting in the recent years, which I'm sure the people at Wotc are aware of. To...

    D&D 5E (2024) 4e design in 5.5e ?

If I could agree with this post more than once, I would.

    D&D 5E (2024) What do you want & expect to see in 2024's 5.5e?

Well, no, not really. The 5e Hexblade does attempt to recreate the 4e Hexblade (and doesn't do a stellar job at it, unfortunately). The 4e Swordmage is very different: the at-will Aegis of shielding/Aegis of assault to either protect allies or hound enemies relentlessly, unarmored but constantly...

    D&D 5E (2024) What do you want & expect to see in 2024's 5.5e?

The point is, you're not taking away anything, you would just expand the design space available. All the current subclasses would remain perfectly valid options. But if a WotC dev had a brilliant idea for a spell-less paladin, or an half-caster druid (4e Warden?), or the Swordmage I was talking...

    D&D 5E (2024) What do you want & expect to see in 2024's 5.5e?

Heh, I understand what you mean about the wizard, but I'm just a huge fan of the 4e Swordmage. No 5e gish is even close to how good of a gish the Swordmage was, even after they re-introduced a few of its signature abilities, like Booming Blade.

    D&D 5E (2024) What do you want & expect to see in 2024's 5.5e?

The improvement in design space would be huge though. We could have spellcasting-focused subclasses that give access to high level spells, so, say, a Lore Bard would be exactly as it is right now. Then, new subclasses that don't get those high level spells, would have to get something else in...

    D&D 5E (2024) What do you want & expect to see in 2024's 5.5e?

I want a lot, and I expect to be disappointed :) ok, more seriously: more design space dedicated to subclasses. Here's a discussion thread about this idea. the math for saving throws and DCs is out of whack... which wouldn't be such a huge issue, if the game wasn't filled to the brim with...

    [IC] Eberron: The Plumbers

"Yeah, I agree with Alara here, we should report back first. Who knows, the Watch might have some information on our targets, now that we know who we are up against, or they may be able to offer some support" Liutbrand takes another bite from a delicious pastry "Probably not, but it's worth a try".

    D&D 3.x

Sounds interesting. I’ve never had the opportunity to play editions before 3rd (barring some computer games) so that nostalgia has no grip on me, but I’d be curious to know how this hacked 3d edition version plays in practice.

D&D General Another D&D pronunciation question - this one's for Grognards

Just realizing that I’ve been pronouncing all words like grognard, bulette and tarrasque with their French pronunciation and apparently most people don’t! I did study some French in my youth, so I just default to the french pronunciation when I see a french -looking word.
