The WotC OGL Release on DDB today was edited in real time!

Legal right? Where is that right outlined? And can't people who want 5e psionics just as easily use the DMsGuild? Or r/UnearthedArcana? Or Homebrewery? The OGL is for publishers, not homebrew modifications. Unless there was some Psionic Handbook for 5e on Kickstarter I've missed.

The WotC OGL Release on DDB today was edited in real time!

How much new stuff for 3e SRD and the 5.0 SRD are you expecting? Is anyone making content for PF1? When was the last Mutants & Masterminds release?

Why? What difference would it make when people can use the Paizo license? (And likely will just in case. No one is going to trust WotC) It would just be performative. It's not like anyone is making new 3.5e content.

Do they need to now, with the Paizo license in the works?

Or they could rent a blimp and fly over GenCon throwing out handfuls of money...

It's either a negotiation or an extortion (by the fans). Name one "tree" that was actually chopped down. Name one thing that actually changed. In this metaphor, WotC threatened to cut down trees but never did. And other companies came up and planted even more trees.

More that a pet peeve is applying to this situation. How is removing royalties, explicitly allowing cosplay and live streams, not taking ownership of content, allowing old OGL content to still be sold NOT "meaningful, concrete steps to correct their hostile actions"?? WotC pretty much gave the...

Critical Role Could Critical Role launch their own RPG?

People they chose to hire. They chose to expand and become this growing lifestyle brand. But, look, it's somewhat hypocritical to defend CR for doing business things for business reasons and then come down hard on WotC for doing the same thing. As it's a much bigger company with even more...

Do you really think for a SECOND that had the blog instead said something to the effect of "we've heard the community and are doubling down on the protection for the OGL with the 1.0b, which is the same as the 1.0a but adds a clause making it extra double irrevocable!" that any of the people mad...

This isn't a legal document. This is literally a blog post.

Writing can always be improved, whether for a college essay or a corporate statement. They didn't try to make a stealth change to the statement to slip in a new clause or comment. They just punched up the language. It's not a big deal. This is really just another example of how you just cannot...

Maybe. But I'd still prefer to have a better written statement.

Oh. My. God. They edited a blog after it was posted?!? Is that ALLOWED??!! Next they'll write a comment and edit it. 🙄 As someone who writes for spare change, a piece is never finished. You always want to revise and will always find something you can improve or punch up. I'm not going to fault...

WotC Walks Back Some OGL Changes, But Not All

Assuming no one else replied, it's section 13: 13. Termination: This License will terminate automatically if You fail to comply with all terms herein and fail to cure such breach within 30 days of becoming aware of the breach. All sublicenses shall survive the termination of this License.

Critical Role Could Critical Role launch their own RPG?

Critical Role is and always has been a business. They're doing the show to make money. They're not going to jeopardize their business by slandering or attacking a business partner they have contracts with. They likely have future products and books in the work. Another adventure or new campaign...

WotC Walks Back Some OGL Changes, But Not All

Google "Wendy's Feast of Legends". It was very much a thing and a physical book with dice, and they even partnered with Critical Role to do a ridiculous one-shot. It was not a small product, and is the kind of marketing that might become more common as D&D and TTRPGs become more well known. It...

WotC Walks Back Some OGL Changes, But Not All

Having read the blog on DnDBeyond one thought I had over the "the OGL wasn't made for corporations" is, I wonder how much the Old Spice class and Wendy's RPG motivated that. As D&D and RPGs become more mainstream, that could be more common. As gamers, we might be concerned with Pathfinder. But...

WotC Walks Back Some OGL Changes, But Not All

Uncertain how I feel. It does sound like they tried to resolve most of the issues. It seems like they listened to the community, which is nice and should be praised: if apologies aren't ever accepted, there's no reason for them to fix future mistakes. De-authorizing the old OGL is a bitter...

    RPG Evolution: Fixing the Mess

Vague tweet. Are they saying THEY received the OGL with a contract or just repeating what they've heard? But, okay, I'll accept contracts were sent out. Doesn't really change the fact WotC hasn't made a formal announcement and there's all kinds of ways they can spin this or retract the OGL 1.1...
