Pimp my PC Race #1: Rakasta

On a slightly different topic, here's something to think about with your Rakasta. I've been in the process of re-designing the other common Mystata/Savage Coast races for my own campaign (specifically the lupin, rakasta, tortle, and aranea). I didn't want to design a race that replaced...

Pimp my PC Race #1: Rakasta

How about something like this: Pounce (Rakasta Racial Power) You leap suddenly, swatting your foe off balance. Encounter * Weapon Immediate Reaction Melee Weapon Trigger: An adjacent enemy shifts Attack: You can shift into the square the enemy vacated and make a Strength vs. AC attack. Hit...

Martial Controller: Auxiliary (Version 0.11) -Updated Preview Character (Aug. 9th)

I've just skimmed the preview document so I haven't had time to digest the whole thing and compare it against a wizard, but there were a couple of quick things that registered on the first read. Using the "Stance" keyword with the Control Zone class features (as currently written) is...

Homebrew Race: Kindred (aka Disney's Gargoyles)

For those not in the know, Disney's Gargoyles cartoon aired back in the '90s. The main characters were gargoyles - a race of winged humanoids that were guardians by nature and turned into stone in the sunlight. Below is my attempt to render them as a 4E race. With the turning to stone...

Hasbro Posts $32.9 Million Profit in First Quarter

The lack of mention of D&D should come as no surprise. Hasbro purchased WotC to consolidate the Pokemon license much in the same way they purchased Galoob ages ago to consolidate the Star Wars license. As an aside, Hasbro has done a wonderful job messing with Spider-Man toy collectors. The...

Name That Portal! (Win A Free Book!)

Hmm... the name should be neutral to be evenly applicable to all small-press PDF publishers that are involved... Evocative of the print-on-demand nature of the site... Maybe something to connect it back to RPGs or the open gaming movement... Open on Demand? Open Gaming on Demand? Open...

How many have considered buying EoMR in print?

Yeah, a full color (or even black and white for that matter) combined harback of EoM would be just delicious enough to get me to buy the first one again. I'm a big fan of the rule set and the version of D20 I'm rebuilding for my home use completely tosses Vancian magic out the door and...

How many have considered buying EoMR in print?

I've got EOM:R in print and it looks great. I think the pages even feel a little higher quality than the old WotC softcover splatbooks from the 3.0 days. Very happy, very pleased. Next time I get some spare money I'll have to order Lyceian Arcane.

    Orcus "Last Word"

I agree (and the sig needed updating - it went all the way back to early 3.5E days)

    Non-stereotypical versions of PHB races

You might consider looking at the World of Warcraft book. Taurens might do nicely for the drow and the high elves may be useful for the elves (arcane magic is demonic in that setting and high elves are addicted to arcane magic). High elves have a LA+1 IIRC, so that might not do it for you...

    What is your icon?

Some dude from Shining Force 3 scenario 1. I forget his name but he's the elf archer that's with Synbios's group from the beginning. Starts with an H I think.

Cynidicea, Lost City, Masque of Dreams

I'm in complete agreement. If I had half the conviction to see a project through I wouldn't still be working on a big Mystara/Hollow World conversion of my own after 5 years. I'd have the dern thing finished by now. (But hey, at least I've gotten about as far as the other group working on it.)

D&D 3.x Conceptual Problems with 3E/3.5E and Desired Solutions for 4E

Hmm... seems my math is especially fuzzy today. 5.5 times 15 is only 82.5, isn't it? But I digress.

D&D 3.x Conceptual Problems with 3E/3.5E and Desired Solutions for 4E

In all actuality, you're right, but the D&D hit point mechanic already allows for this situation. The first level fighter on average won't have more than 10-12 hit points versus the 15th level fighter with somewhere around 395 to 397 hit points. If they both have average strength and the 15th...

D&D 3.x Conceptual Problems with 3E/3.5E and Desired Solutions for 4E

I disagree with this. Let me give you a real world example of why. Say a highly-trained blackbelt in karate attacked me, a mook with no real training. For argument's sake, we'll stat the karate man as a 15th level monk and me as a 1st level commoner. However, I've got a chainsaw and plenty...

D&D 3.x Conceptual Problems with 3E/3.5E and Desired Solutions for 4E

Personally I think they need to address the idea of spell casting and multiclassing and how doing the latter completely nerfs the former. I don't think it would be entirely unreasonable if the "how many spells I can cast a day" mechanic was separate from the "what level of spells I know"...

    Why Miniatures are Randomized

My experience with action figures is this: Very soft plastic (the kind that loses it's form under it's own weight) can be reshaped with hot tap water alone. Some of the harder yet still flexible plastic (such as the kind used in DDM) can be reshaped using this method, but only if the amount of...

    A Whole New Magic System?

Elements of Magic Revised is good. It actually makes mages a tad bit weaker in exchange for more flexibility. Plus it stays close enough to Vancian thinking in that you have a number of pre-determined spells set up that you can cast as a standard action ("signature" spells) but can always put...

Pathfinder 1E Has Paizo been selling my address?

I can dig your disdain of receiving ads in your mailbox, but when he says advertisers allow them to make a profit, he means every stream of advertiser revenue, not just print ads inside the magazine itself. Without getting into the ethics or fuzzy-term "rightness" of the action, your subscriber...
