D&D 5E (2014) Survivor Core Classes- Fighter Wins!

Barbarian 16 Bard 23 Cleric 20 Druid 19 Fighter 21 Monk 18 Paladin 17 Ranger 18 - In an edition so finely balanced as 5e all classes seem fun, but this one is so meh it appears to have slipped under everyone's down vote radar. Rogue 22 Sorcerer 11 Warlock 21 (was displaying one point lower than...

    Single-spell Caster & a Feat-based Class

Oh wow, when I asked about an update I never expected split into subclasses to have already progressed so far. I think the School Arcane Traditions feature was an especially fitting way to give the subclass an ability based on school choice without over complicating things. Here's a few of my...

D&D 5E (2014) Arcane Eye - Working out the unexplained...

Not sure how correct my answer is but I would rule that objects and such don't have to hide to be hidden (as they don't do things like breath or move), and that you strictly need a sense that can detect them. You would need a magical sense of some sort to find the sensor for Arcane Eye because...

    Single-spell Caster & a Feat-based Class

I intended for this change to be put into place without removing any of the current restrictions, so since 9th level spells were already disallowed they still can't be chosen. Also, I think this is a step in the right direction for Animate Objects, because you can no longer have a swarm of tiny...

    Single-spell Caster & a Feat-based Class

I had an idea for nerfing higher level spells before they are normally available. If your Singular Spell is of a level greater than half your Cynosure level (round up), it gains the following properties when you cast it: If this spell would target more than one creature or object or would...

    Single-spell Caster & a Feat-based Class

A couple new observations. In light of bganon's comment, I think removing the Cynosure's Singular Recovery feature may be wise. If your S. Spell is high level, more spell charges only highlights that you have such a powerful option so early; if you S. Spell is low level, you already have enough...

    Single-spell Caster & a Feat-based Class

I read them over a couple more times, but don't have much more to add. If it doesn't clash too much with the theme of the class, I would consider giving the Cynosure a couple of spells other than their specialized spell, to give them a little flexibility. Maybe just 2-3 cantrips & 2-3 1st level...

    Single-spell Caster & a Feat-based Class

These look like fun class ideas in the event you can actually balance them. I've only skimmed so far, but here are a couple of observations: Definitely add multiclass restrictions, because extra feats seems a bit too exploitable, but feats alone probably doesn't give a character enough to work...

    D&D 5E (2014) Ability vs. Modifier

I actually did a topic on something similar a while back. I asked people to list as many situations where an odd score is better than an even score with the same modifier, other than the fact that the odd score is easier to bump up to an even score. About 75% of the posts that tried to give an...

Do you mean true strike? Don't worry, it's just a clarification for me, you don't need to pick the mic back up.

Well this thread has been dead for approaching three years now... What better time to reevaluate some spells?

    D&D 5E (2014) Pacifist priest Spell : Placation Hammer

This doesn't really seem necessary given that you can already choose to knock a creature unconscious instead of killing it when you reduce its hp to 0 with a melee attack. Maybe change the effect to make it similar to sleep, or maybe give it some other restraining effect. Also: Welcome!

D&D 5E (2014) Why Green Flame Blade is Over Rated- And You Are Doing it Wrong.

Do keep in mind that the melee cantrips already have a few advantages over ranged ones: they don't suffer disadvantage when in melee, they can be augmented by abilities that effect your weapon attacks (for example, sneak attack or divine smite), they can be augmented by the properties of your...

D&D 5E (2014) Berserker Barbarian good or needs fix? What Fix?

This. The frenzy barb isn't bad, and if you play one you probably won't have a bad time, but that bear totem is just so appealing. The bonus action attack is nice because it is very reliable in comparison to other bonus action attack options like TWF or GWM, but its not so valuable as to warrant...

D&D 5E (2014) CoS removed bonus action to two weapon fighting on attack my thoughts.

I agree with all of this, just wanted to clarify that one cannot simply pick up two crossbows and get the bonus action attack for free.

D&D 5E (2014) CoS removed bonus action to two weapon fighting on attack my thoughts.

I thought that was just to indicate the ability to reload despite not having a free hand (and not taking an action).

D&D 5E (2014) CoS removed bonus action to two weapon fighting on attack my thoughts.

I would like to point out that RAW you cannot dual wield hand crossbows because they are not melee weapons. The PHB states "When you take the Attack action and attack with a light melee weapon that you’re holding in one hand, you can use a bonus action to attack with a different light melee...
