the tablet war is heating up

I predict -- and will actually bet money if anyone's interested -- that there will in fact be a new iPad introduced on March 7, it will feature a quadruple resolution display and quad-core processor, and that there will not be a smaller iPad of any kind in 2012. I also predict (but will not bet...

The Walking Dead Episode 2.8 - Nebraska

The reality is that deaths throughout human history have primarily been from "stupid" stuff: slipping on wet rocks, tripping on a hidden root, sitting on a snake. Stupid mistakes are the norm.

The Walking Dead Episode 2.8 - Nebraska

I really, really enjoyed this episode. Almost feels like I watched something different from everyone else.

    GLEE #56: The Spanish Teacher

Was I not paying attention at the time or did this not happen? This was a hot number, and Santana never looked better. I thought this was another solid number, a surprisingly good mashup due to the way it sort of jumped back and forth between them, not as smoothly as many mashups but in a good...

    Spotting a star's wobble

That's what I was going to pretend, too, and make a remark about paparazzi doing it all the time.

    GLEE #55: Michael

It was pretty diverse, agreed. Still felt strange. Don't mistake my expressing discomfort with it as a claim that it was wrong or bad, or that other people should feel this way. Just noting my response.

    Harlan Roulette #3--JUSTIFIED/Season 3 2012

Or at least acted like it to get what he wanted. In a great interview actor Walton Goggins, who portrays Boyd Crowder, noted that the writers intentionally leave the truth of it nebulous; Boyd is very, very shrewd.

    GLEE #55: Michael

I felt uneasy about the distinct lack of "black" in Black and White, but for a tiny bit of Mercedes in the morphing.

Game of Thrones: Season 2, first full trailer up

Aye, that would be a sort of idealized outcome, and right along the lines of what I hoped/thought. Yeah, exactly. No way it'll be that smooth, especially since it would require different parties to cooperate, something that doesn't seem to be in the blood of Westerosi. Heck, that might well...

    Harlan Roulette #3--JUSTIFIED/Season 3 2012

Boyd continues to be the most fascinating character on the show. Definitely one of the 10 best shows out there now, probably 5 best. The writing and acting are unsurpassed.

I totally understand that. It's just that it has been somewhat frustrating seeing her transform from into a . The trailer just reminded me that .

    Interesting "new" shows

The first season/series of The Fades is truly amazing.

the tablet war is heating up

Bizarre. It's Flurry Analytics' blog and Chrome (which is usually crazy paranoid about such things) has no complaints. To summarize it shows two pie charts titled "End User Application Sessions by Android Tablet". November 2011 Samsung Galaxy Tab: 63% ASUS Transformer: 13% Acer Iconia Tab...

the tablet war is heating up

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Kindle Fire has suddenly become a huge proportion of the total Android tablet world. (The article starts with the same shipment/sales failure, but the data below that is actual use.)

the tablet war is heating up

It's not a matter of being an "iFan", it's a matter of facts. You wrote "Apple had 59% of the tablet market share, Android had 38%", which is simply factually wrong. If you said, for example, "Apple had 59% of the tablets shipped, Android had 38%," and then added the disclaimer about use then...

the tablet war is heating up

Those are, as usual, iPads actually sold to consumers vs. Android (and Windows) tablets shipped to warehouses and stores. Same kind of numbers last summer, with sell-through on Android tablets coming in at about 10% of shipped. Not super-interesting, imo.

    Oscar Nominations are out

Or that terrible big winner last year, The King's Speech, with it's miserable directing, Colin Firth's lousy performance, and the horrible writing. Oh wait, none of that is true. Huh.

    Oscar Nominations are out

Tree of Life will not win, but I found it to be totally amazing. It is very slow and drifty, so it's definitely not something you'll want to watch unless you're in a relaxed, contemplative mood, but all of the drifty threads form an amazing, powerful motion picture. Any film that intentionally...
