    World Building Poll

Maybe this could spawn a second poll. What is the most important aspect in developing a history for your rpg? Individual PC backgrounds, major NPC backgrounds, timeline of events in character's hometown, events in neighboring districts, events in distant lands?

    World Building Poll

I can definitely see the advantage to providing a written background or history---not just for the players but for the land in which they live. Even a slightly detailed timeline would be very beneficial.

    World Building Poll

When I made the categories, I meant for environment to just include landscapes/terrain/and the like. Now, I wonder if 'Environment' might be too broad of a category, because it would technically involve the flora, fauna, terrain, settlements, everything---maybe that 'blending' that Drawmack is...

    World Building Poll

I thought I would share the results of a poll from the Dimensions Game Software website. Question: What is the most important element in 'World Building'? 36% Environment 26% Government 15% Religion 10% Other 5% Flora 5% Fauna 0% Weather 0% Economy Some of the more insightful comments that...

how would you deal with the character of a player who leaves the game?

Mysterious disappearance---the characters wake up and one of them is missing--- If the character had valuable campaign-related info, a note explaining this info, any plot points, and valuable items can be left behind for the character most able to fulfill the role to find. The note doesn't...

The Revision Right Under our Noses...

Quote: " My worry is, if all these high-level instakill spells just deal out massive amounts of damage, there is nothing to differentiate one from the other. It would be nice if each could work according to a different mechanic, e.g. one could deal Strength damage, another Constitution damage...

    SRD Now in PDF format!!

Maybe instead of reformating the whole thing (since a nicely formatted version is already available), I should focus on plugging the info into the random generators...I do love the unpredictability of a touch of randomness.

    SRD Now in PDF format!!

Seems I'm a little behind the times on this one. I've been busily working on converting the SRD to html and adding software generators for each of the tables. I've finished the SRDtreasure.rtf and the specialeffects.rtf. It is a lot of work! Doesn anyone think there's a need for a .pdf...

Dragon #308 previews new ranger and barbarian!

Seems like most of the players in my campaigns have more fun when they are allowed to play whatever they want and I adjust the strengths of the monsters as necessary. But it does seem possible that some settings might be incomptible with some classes. I guess I would try to base it on overall...

Re: Re: Re: oldest theory disproved And, having made use of MTS, that is a perfectly appropriate response, and more likely to solve your problems. [/B] Microsoft Technical Support? I think if your last name isn't Gates, you won't get much support from them there 800 numbers. At least I...

    Fun with Random Tables

One of my favorite uses for random tables is to write down scenes from movies or books then use them as encounters in random order---the stories always turn out completely different than originally written. It's also fun to mix the scenes from various movies/books/etc into one randomized chart.
