    I want to believe

I see the logic--Why even roll a Will save when you aren't going to abide by the outcome anyway?--Brilliant! Essentially, as Bercilac suggested, play as if there is no difference between the game and the metagame. As long as your DM is cool with it, I think this will work well for your group.

Running a short game for first time players at school

If you are still considering 4e, you can get free PDF copies of the Quick Start Rules for the kids, which includes 6 pregens. Then go to the back of the DMG and run the one-shot "Kobold Hall." (I'm planning on doing exactly this for my next game night -- finally we'll get to try out 4e.)

    I want to believe

The DM gets to decide what "interaction" means. Some DMs would have granted you a save the moment the illusion came into view; others, like your DM, wouldn't grant a save until you did something that the illusion's caster did not anticipate. I try to encourage in my players the creative use of...

    I want to believe

No, you are most certainly not your PC. At least that much should be obvious.... And you failed your save -- the illusion doesn't just look and feel real, your PC actually thinks it's real. BTW: There could be all sorts of reasons why the kama isn't in the coffin (the world of D&D is a...

    I want to believe

As was mentioned before, the way out of this "paradox" is circumstance boni. Your character's unsatiated hunger might eventually lead him/her to believe that the food is an illusion. Eventually, you'd have to roll a 1 to continue to believe in the illusion.

    Return of the Edition War

What, exactly, is the purpose of this thread?

    I want to believe

Let's never mind for the moment that the DM didn't handle things well.... Now, re-read the paragraph in which the above quote rests. You talk about what your characters do, then: "Yet, despite all that, we didn’t completely believe the corpse was real based on our own intuition." Why would...

As a mathematician I find it hard not to get hung up on terminology. :p

    Alacritous Cogitation + metamagic feat = ?

I would guess that Alacritous Cogitation is less useful for narrowly defined wizards, and usually I, too, would turn my nose up at a 1/day feat or ability, but I really do love Alacritous Cogitation+Collegiate Wizard for my utility-focused wizard. And even when I have reason/need to prepare a...

    "SPACE FIGHT!" Starship combat boardgame

Hmmm, now that speed points are used only to speed up/down, you may as well do away with them and instead have an Acceleration value for each ship, which would indicate by how many hexes your speed can be increased/decreased in a single turn. I mean, functionally that's what speed point are now...

    I Owe Wizards an Apology

My Wizard, Ed Bejebus the Oft-Befuddled, says, "Apology accepted!" :p

    "SPACE FIGHT!" Starship combat boardgame

I guess if you want movement to be something more than "move x hexes per round," then you'll have to put up with some complexity. (Of course, striking the balance is the trick!) Some questions to think about: How easily did everyone learn the movement rules? Or was it just too much...

What, exactly, is a 'firing arc'? A direction in which a given ship can fire? ("Arc" makes me think of curves.) Also: What was "awkward to implement" about the movement phase?

Beguiler: Broken spells? Things to watch out for as GM?

A Beguiler doesn't have to have a high Cha, but it's nice. First, look at the skill list: Bluff, Diplomacy, Gather Information, Use Magic Device. Second, the Surprise Casting class ability uses Bluff. You don't have to max-out Cha, but you'd probably want it fairly high, right?

Your Life as a DnD Class

Yeah, I'm wondering how many years of martial arts would equate to a level of monk. A black belt has to count for something, right?

    Alacritous Cogitation + metamagic feat = ?

IMHO once per day won't be a problem.

    "SPACE FIGHT!" Starship combat boardgame

So how much does it cost to turn more than 60 degrees in one go? From my reading it sounds like that might be possible, but there is no associated cost. In any case, the game looks like a lot of fun!

    "SPACE FIGHT!" Starship combat boardgame

It seems to me that the Maneuverability score obviates the need to combine the two numbers, but it sounds like you want the cost for turning to depend on the ship, right? Will the cost to speed up/down also depend on the ship? This approach, as opposed to having a flat cost for turning and...

    "SPACE FIGHT!" Starship combat boardgame

Is it redundant to have both a Maneuverability score and a cost associated with turning? Presumably clumsy ships will have both a low Maneuverability score and a high cost associated with turning, so it seems like such a ship is being penalized twice. IMHO, it seems like you could get away...
