Martial Controller: Auxiliary (Version 0.11) -Updated Preview Character (Aug. 9th)

Thanks for your comments. I hope you'll provide more ;) Nice catch... I originally had them working like stances, but changed them and forgot to take that element out of the class features. Thanks for pointing it out for me ;) This is something I'm keeping my eyes on as you point out Wizards...

    The d2: Thoughts?

I think it'd be perfect for the next Star Wars RPG system... the d2 System... with the tagline: "Do, or do not. There is no try."

Martial Controller: Auxiliary (Version 0.11) -Updated Preview Character (Aug. 9th)

Just uploaded a new preview charater for the Auxiliary martial controller class... I decided against doing all the numbers for everyone and instead allow the underlying mechanics to be seen. It should help with feedback from those who have not signed an NDA, but still want to comment on the...

Minions with 1hp - Can anyone justify this?

Balor minions would be... harsh... all those death bursts... ouch ;) As to the OP question: If each minion is worth about 1/4 a regular creature and regular creatures are suppose to go down in 3-5 hits (depending upon whether at-will, encounter, or dailies are used), then is there really much...

Martial Controller: Auxiliary (Version 0.11) -Updated Preview Character (Aug. 9th)

The next version of the Auxiliary class preview character is almost ready for release. I spent the last week or so revising the class features (mainly simplifying and combining them) and restructuring the powers so they feel more organic and evolutionary from level 1 to 30. Thanks for...

Are ranged rangers better than melee ones?

This is the reference that rules them all... at least for this debate ;)

    Your ideal setting

My ideal setting looks like the Nevermore campaign setting for the True20 system, which is why I wrote it in the first place. ;) Why is it my ideal campaign setting? 1) It can be added onto almost any other campaign setting I need it to, whether it be an official campaign or a homebrew. 2) It...

    Maps in published settings

Funny you should mention this... I just posted a map image at my new blog about The World of Nevermore campaign setting. It's highly stylized, but Scott Purdy did an awesome job on it ;) You can also check of the free Nevermore Gazetteer at Your Games Now. The full-size map of Nevermore can be...

Martial Controller: Auxiliary (Version 0.11) -Updated Preview Character (Aug. 9th)

So now that I've come back to the class with a fresh pair of eyes... I'll be changing a lot of class features and powers around to create a more affective and effective overall class. I am especially axing the immediate action angle. It was interesting, however I think it's too jarring to the...

D&D 4E The Economy of Actions in 4e

I agree... although I also think pets aren't in the "core" eight b/c WotC really wants to drive home the redefinition of "core." WotC really wants people to see all the PHBs, MMs, and DMGs as "core" and the best way to do that is keep a few previously "core" classes, races, and features back for...

D&D 4E The Economy of Actions in 4e

Yeah I'd rate them higher too, but I was mainly thinking of a "what if" you could trade your IA for an action on your turn. I think it would be appropriate to have a hefty cost to do so. I'm also thinking that IAs as At-Will Attacks (utility powers is fine as the rogue reveals) is probably too...

Martial Controller: Auxiliary (Version 0.11) -Updated Preview Character (Aug. 9th)

Okay so one of the things I'm thinking of dropping is the whole Immediate Action angle for the class. I still think it would be nice to have some Immediate Action powers for the Auxiliary class, but I think the class as written interfers too much with the cycle of play and could result in...

D&D 4E The Economy of Actions in 4e

That's what I thought... ;) So in light of that what do you think of working IAs into the above scenarios? Would it be too much to keep track of, too disruptive to other player/DMs turns? What about sacrificing your IA for a round to do something minor on your turn? For example: If you summon...

D&D 4E The Economy of Actions in 4e

Thanks for you comments... they make sense and I can see how too many IAs would probably hurt the overall flow of play. I guess my next question is would it be less disruptive if a class could "sacrifice" its IA for a round for some small benefit on its turn and thereby avoid the interuptions...
