    D&D 4E the 4e debate: a typology of players

I am a 9, trying to contain my inner number 10 until the full rules come out...

Jason Bulmahn Speaks about DDXP(His take on the system)

The way I did it was to say that every life has its ending point. The God of Death knows when this is and his clerics are there to help those whose time has not yet arrived, ease those who are suffering while dying, and bring those who would subvert the natural order of death to the judgment of...

Do We Know (Officially) when Barbarians and Druids will be Released?

By weight, paper is more valuable than gold. And to that ink, binding, shipping, and extra time to edit, design the layout, and proof all that extra content and the costs are astronomical. The PHB is not an incomplete product. It has everything one needs to run the game successfully. If it...

D&D 4E What will your first 4E campaign look like?

I did this for the change from 2nd to 3rd edition and advanced the world by 500 years. One of the elven NPCs had married a human PC and she slowly went mad after he died and was constantly trying to bring him back. Unfortunately for her, he had already been reincarnated (all of the new PCs were...

[Speculative] Rivals or What level adjust to you put on PC glow?

I see no reason who you could not create a NPC from the ground up, using the same rules as the PCs. In fact, I have a feeling most BBEGs will be made exactly this way. As for giving Elites and Solos Healing Surges... Second Wind is the main way that Healing surges are used in combat, so any...

    D&D 4E DDXP 4E Rules Appendix

Only if you shout, "You were the Chosen One! You were to bring balance to the Force!" while you do it. In all seriousness, though, all of your examples seem legal RAW. This is why I was amazed by the Trickster Rogue's ability to push an enemy a number of squares equal to CA modifier...

    Monster Design--from a designer's standpoint

Incenjucar, you asked for it... :) It is really limited right now, but can lead to some bizarre combinations. Monster Type: 1-5 Humanoid 6-10 Abberation 11-15 Undead 16-20 Devil / Demon Monster Tactics: 1-10 None 11-15 Pack Tactics 16-20 Mob Attack Monster Attcks (melee): 1-5 Basic Attack vs...

    D&D 4E DDXP 4E Rules Appendix

All negative HP are imaginary. Any healing raises you first to 0 HP and is applied from there. There is no situation (at least with what we know now) that would have you getting healed and still at negative HP.

    Monster Design--from a designer's standpoint

Fitz: care to share those monsters? I am becoming very interested in the different monsters that people are coming up with. I am getting a good mix of creatures and styles. And, as I said earlier, I am looking forward to "filing off the serial numbers" of monsters to make new and spontaneous...

    Monster Design--from a designer's standpoint

In the future, please report the post rather than copying, thanks. --Dinkeldog/Moderator I am excited about the announcement and look forward to the book. If you are not, there are other places to vent.

D&D 4E Where the break between pro and anti 4e is

If you have devoted your entire life to fighting, and focused on tripping you would have feats to represent this. The RAW give us the baseline and feats can (and probably will) extend this. I was very well trained to fight in the Army but I would not be able to trip people at will. However, I...

    D&D 4E DDXP 4E Rules Appendix

I never said it was a good benefit. :) My question is whether the death save is a true saving throw. If so, then loading up on skills and feats to improve your saving throws become very important. If not, then character death is a very real (and possibly frequent) concern.

    D&D 4E DDXP 4E Rules Appendix

The benefit is that there is no "healed but still negative" situation. If I am at -7 and someone hits me with a Cure Minor Wounds, I am at 1... not -6. More efficient healing, but that healing (or use of the heal skill) is required because the dying has only a 5% chance to recover independently.

Why do the designers want it to be "cool" and "fun"

I have had fun and thought it was cool researching the archaeological excavations at Nara (outside Kyoto), but I also had fun and thought it was cool to play Mario Party with my wife and friends. Fun and cool are not mutually exclusive to an intellectually stimulating endeavor. In any case, I...

    Rethinking Reflex and AC...

It makes sense in a tech heavy setting. The flightsuit has a limited ability to inject antitoxins, or seal wounds, etc. In a fantasy setting, it is not as easy to explain why this would happen except through the judicious use of the "its magic!" stick. Perhaps it could work as a side benefit of...

Seconded. :) Ohio is in the grips of snow-mageddon, so my chance to run 4e was scuttled for now. I am dying for more info. Anything new is enough to excite me right now...
