Unfounded Power/Role Speculation OR What I Want for Christmas

Personally, I wanted the Necromancer to be an arcane/shadow leader. I liked the idea of the necromancer using powers to drain the life out of his enemies and use that same lifeforce to bolster his allies. As for the monk, I am hoping to see a version of the monk that has powers that trigger off...

    Making your own power cards

That is why I am gluing mine onto cut-out index cards and putting them in card sleeves. I want to have them reusable later. In no case do I want to have to make Tide of Iron eight times because it got bent, or spindled, or mutilated, or whatever. I really feel the return on investment of time...

    Monster Design--from a designer's standpoint

This is where I think the real ability of the PC classes to intermesh will shine. The bodak weakens a PC and sets up Death Gaze. The PC can't make a save until the end of his next turn. The party does not want to see him die, so the cleric uses his ability to grant an immediate save, or the...

Analysis of Initial release of PCs

The idea seems to be as follows: High damage weapons (axes, etc) are prof:1 - unwieldy but powerful Normal weapons (longsword, etc) are prof:2 - middle of the road, good damage, but not overly fast Fast weapons (dagger, etc) are prof:3 - not much on damage, but far easier to hit with

Analysis of Initial release of PCs

The dagger is a prof:3 weapon (+3 to hit). This comes from one of the recent podcasts (19, I think).

    Blasts

Burst - has an epicenter and radiates outward to n. Blast - has an originating square and fills a given area of size n. A blast (as in a the dragon's breath weapon) must start from a given spot and spread to fill the required area. A burst (as in Scorching Burst) must start from a given spot...

    Monster Design--from a designer's standpoint

ByronD: perhaps it is a problem with the nomenclature. Try it as "Debilitating Gaze" - there is an immediate effect, then things get progressively worse until finally the subject dies (if no saves are made). Just as powers like Crimson Edge are thought as something that is always being...

    Solo Play

You could also try giving them more action points, or a floating bonus when they use an action point. Example: one feat that was used in one of my campaigns was "Soul of the Wolf" [gain +2 to one of: AC, to hit, or damage when fighting with two or more allies. This benefit cannot be changed...

    Yes! "Turns" are back!!

For sufficiently large variants of "work", of course. :)

    Monster Design--from a designer's standpoint

Now that is simply unfair. ;) I have already decided to buy the book as soon as it is released based on the bits you showed earlier... now you must tease me with more? I call shenanigans! :p

    D&D 4E New Trek = D&D 4E

That is a very intriguing point. As a (sometimes rabid) fan of both franchises, it is interesting to read those and try to see the same things in D&D. Thank you, I now have something to think about.

It is a standard mark (i.e. -2 to hit anyone other than the person who did the marking).

D&D 4E 4E: The day the game ate the roleplayer?

Thank you. I have been trying to come up with a way to say exactly this for weeks, but lacked the intimate knowledge that you seem to have as a teacher (I guess computer engineering doesn't give the same skill set... :) ). In all the games I have run, in all the states, in all the game...

Armor & Coins - please, No.

Fair enough. Your players used different armors than any of mine. I have run games literally from coast to coast (due to being in the Army), and I always saw medium armor jettisoned after 1st or 2nd level. It was an unnecessary addition for the people that I played with, they would not have...

Armor & Coins - please, No.

So we have: Astral Diamond - tears of the gods Astral Ruby - blood of the gods Astral Onyx - bile of the gods Any takers of sapphire, amethyst, lapus lazuli, or amber? :)

    Tactical Boardgame?

My friend and I used to play a completely narrative game back in the day (based loosely off D&D). No books, no character sheets, no rules. It was a lot of fun, and there was no rules-based formality needed. We were crafting an interactive, cooperative story. After awhile, we moved on to AD&D...

Armor & Coins - please, No.

Medium armor simply was not used enough to warrant inclusion in 4e (at least, that is the way all my games have played out). As for the donning time, it was another table in the PHB that almost never got used. The heroic, paragon, and epic armors don't bother me, but then again I got used to...

    Blasts

Operating under the premise that SWSE was a 4e type system, blast would be like a blaster (therefore operating as a line) and a burst would be a outward radiating effect (usually with the caster as the epicenter). Of course, this could simply be playing loose and fast with semantics.

You, sir, rock hard. This is much easier to work with and more fun to read. Thank you.

    Did the Alignment Champions Win?

It is still in as a concept, but is removed as a mechanic. For example, there are (presumably) no axiomatic weapons, based on D&D Podcast 20. Also, the inclusion of "Unaligned" makes it so not everything will have to be placed on that coordinate system. A good change, IMHO.
