    D&D 5E (2014) Leomund's Ultimate Fortification

The PHB version of Leomund's Tiny Hut seems... quite powerful. It's a ritual, so any 5th-level Bard or Wizard can cast it an unlimited number of times at 11 minutes per casting. It lasts 8 hours and is impenetrable to spells, magical effects, and to any creatures and objects that weren't...

D&D 5E (2014) Empowered Evocation plus Magic Missile?

Hey, look at that -- he answered my exact question. Thanks!

D&D 5E (2014) Empowered Evocation plus Magic Missile?

From the basic rules, Empowered Evocation lets you "add your Intelligence modifier to the damage roll of any wizard evocation spell you cast." If I have an Int modifier of +5 and cast a Magic Missile with the three darts targeting three different creatures, presumably the damage against each...

    D&D 5E (2014) Finally

Does the Sorcerer still have the "Twinned Spell" metamagic, and is it still worded such that it can be applied for free to cantrips? That's one from the alpha that seemed concerning -- similar to Overchannel with cantrips, but available at level 3 rather than level 14. Though it probably still...

    Adventurer's League DM advancement

I was just checking out the new Adventurer's League Player's Guide, and I was happy to see that DMs can get XP to advance their own character by DMing. I'd love to be able to DM a home game and then join my players at a convention for a Battle Interactive (now D&D Epics) to fight alongside...

    Average PC damage per hit?

If what you want is simpler tracking of monster health behind the screen, you could just round all damage to the nearest 10. It should work out pretty close to correct and be significantly easier to track. At higher levels you could round to the nearest 20, or whatever feels appropriate.

    Marking defenders who grapple

Interesting... the DDI Compendium still says that daze ends a grab, under the "Grab" glossary entry, but it cites only the PHB and PHB3. The more recent "Grabbed" glossary entry agrees with the Rules Compendium that daze doesn't end a grab. Looks like they should clean that up in DDI.

Looking for advice: simple multi attacking fighter-type

For a halfling knight, the Talenta Weapon Training feat could be good. It would let her use a Talenta sharrash with +2 damage -- it works out to the same average damage as the craghammer but with a +3 proficiency bonus. Small Warrior's Defense is quite nice, too. A +2 weapon would also help...

    Ultimate Lair Assault character

Sure, wild talents are a campaign-specific character option, but how can you say they're not a character option? They're an option for how you can build your character, and they're published in an official Wizards product. As far as intent is concerned, Wizards has been pretty clear that the...

    Ultimate Lair Assault character

It gets even better. If you take an Augmenting Whetstone as your L6 item (dropping Pelor's Sun Blessing, or maybe the Amulet of Life), you can use it on the Staff of Missile Mastery to increase both the enhancement and item bonuses to damage by +1, for a total of 15 damage (30 autodamage per...

    Ultimate Lair Assault character

It looks like Icebound Sigil adds its extra damage to Magic Missile even though there's no damage roll. So Wizard|Artificers could do some pretty serious autodamage, and they could still pack in all the healing of my character above. I built out the character, though I haven't tweaked all the...

    Ultimate Lair Assault character

My understanding from the Lair Assault rules is that both of those would be allowed. The WotC site says "Any legal character build of the appropriate level, using options from official Wizards products, is permissible in D&D Lair Assault." While Lair Assault isn't specifically Dark Sun, it...

    Ultimate Lair Assault character

Lair Assault has a glory award for having all characters use the same race. I was thinking about going even further -- can you make a single character that would perform well in Lair Assault if you play with five copies of that character? After working at it a bit, I believe the answer is a...

Shielding Swordmage/Infernal Warlock: is this crazy?

You don't need a good basic attack for Dimensional Vortex -- it negates a hit on your ally and then the enemy makes its attack against (presumably) another enemy. You negate a hit and generate an extra attack, all without spending a standard action.

Shielding Swordmage/Infernal Warlock: is this crazy?

I've played a very similar character in LFR, and it was a lot of fun, but action economy is an issue. Many turns you want to move, mark, curse, and attack, and you can't manage all four. I found Channeling Shield and Dimensional Vortex to be great ways to defend during the first couple rounds...

    Lair Assault format

WotC_M2A0 just posted on the CharOp boards that each Lair Assault consists of multiple encounters. No explicit word on whether there are short rest(s), but my guess is there will be. Otherwise the value of daily vs. encounter powers is heavily skewed.

    Lair Assault format

Interesting -- do you know if there's some sort of break in the encounter that would cause encounter-duration powers to expire, even if the party doesn't get to rest? If not, it's hard to imagine not bringing a cleric with Moment of Glory. Probably a mul, so they can't just stun you to break...

    Lair Assault format

The description of Lair Assault says "Each challenge is a mega-encounter that plays in just a few hours". Does anyone know if that means it's a single encounter per the game term, or whether there might be a short rest or other break somewhere in the middle? I've been thinking about possible...

    So... Do Summoned Creatures Suck?

The summons with Intrinsic Nature are definitely the strong ones, since they effectively give you extra standard actions (for those few with party-friendly intrinsic natures). Summon Succubus is powerful, but she leaves you dazed. Summon Magma Beast occasionally requires a command to keep it...

    June Errata

I've been using Fortitude defense as the instant-kill threshold (minions are only bloodied by less damage than that), which works pretty well. The idea of also having a minimum damage for any effect on a minion is interesting, though I'm not sure what it should be -- maybe 5 damage per tier...
