I once did something like this with a skill & feats psychic system I've been working on. Instead of an opposed roll I made the skill check DC equal to the target's saving throw modifier + 10 (or a static DC for powers where that doesn't work).

I'm planning on buying the 3.5 box set sometime, my friend lost his old D&D box, and I always have the SRD in between. Also I already had copies of DarkMatter and Starships that people gave me while cleaning their rooms.

Oddly enough I don't have a copy on the Monster Manual right now, I traded my 3rd edition core books for the Alternity core books. :)

RPG Objects puts out a pdf called Blood & Rituals. It's has dark powers, cults, and demons. I think you might find it useful.
