I remember having worked out an entire revamp of the AD&D "Magic System" with spell points and such. Players could cast any spells the knew, as long as they still had spell points left.

Anundr nods, and takes the potion from his beltpouch. Tilting Tiko's head back, the Shoanti warrior begins to pour the contents down her throat.

"An extra hand would be helpful, but the ruins are not safe. We do not know what dangers may lurk there."

Anundr let's the surge of adrenaline coursing through his body subside, and then rushes forward to help Tiko.

Meh. It is AD&D. There is no balance anyway. :)
