How is starting wealth for 2+ lvl characters handled in your campaign.

Assuming, of course, that having characters start higher than first level is allowed... I have always gone with the average character wealth table in the DMG and allowed them to spend up to 40% of the total on one item and no more that 20% on any other items. I've been trying to figure out...

    World's Most Usless Spells

Oh gee! What am I going to do with all this platnium? Maybe I should buy a sword as I don't seem to have any weapons...

What was the best character you played...

Mine was Syrath. He was a fighter/cleric of Hieroneous. His father was a great leader of men and his brother was a paladin. He always felt like he needed to live up to them and fell short. He wasn't good enough to be a paladin because his thirst for glory and victory sometimes drove him to do...

Ever kill a familiar? I did.

I didn't kill the familiar but it happened in a game I was playing. We are sleeping for the night and we get attacked by krenshar (plural). The person on watch fails his spot/listen checks and the krenshar attack. The party sorceror is already very badly wounded before we are all awake and...

How does your group handle a character's Hit Points?

You must get a minimum of 30% of what your die can roll. So for d4s ones count as twos for d6s ones count as twos for d8s ones and twos count as threes for d10s ones and twos count as threes for d12s ones, twos and threes count as fours

What 2nd-level spells should any Wizard have?

In addition to the poll choices, I voted for glitterdust. It's a good offensive spell (will save to avoid blindness) and it can reveal invisible opponents which is always nice.

Which edition of D&D did you start with?

Basic D&D. It's amazing how much the game has come. It's also amazing that I am no longer stealing graph paper from math class to make dungeons that make no sense at all. How exactly did those orcs eat? Why didn't they get eaten by the dragon? How did the dragon fit down the trapped...

    A Good Non-orc Orc/Minion Race...

Yak Folk. Just because they hate the Hu-Folk and the lizard-folk.

If you join a group with 4 players alread?

I voted druid, mostly because I've never played one. However, it would depend on the players I was playing with and what classes they were playing. I could see myself playing a sorceror so the wizard could focus on some more esoteric spells, a fighter with a totally different fighting style...

    Who's in charge?

Why not a wizard? Promoted up from the corps of wizards any good army would keep. A high level wizard is super intelligent and if they were say, an army brat that was raised to serve the military, they'd probably have invested a lot of ranks in Knowledge skills like tactics, seige craft...

    How do you use pdf's

Well, I have PDF versions of every gaming book I own in print. I do most of my planning at a computer so it makes sense for me (I won't go into how I got them but I don't have PDF's instead of buying I have them in addition to buying) It's very nice to be able to prepare my game notes and...

    My DM, co-player conundrum

This is clearly my biggest flaw as a DM and one I've Vowed to never do again. I did OK the last game I ran. There was a NPC who was 3 levels higher than the Party's paladin who randomly showed up to try to recruit the Paladin into his order (and spiffy prestiege class) and two local rangers...

Do you use spell components in your game?

We only keep track of components that aren't assumed to be in a standard spell pouch. Too much random book keeping for very little if any increase to the enjoyment of the game.

    Oops

We've signed onto a caravan because it was the only way to sneak out of town and we really needed to get snuck out of town, QUICKLY. The caravan has stopped for the night and my character is on watch. I hear something off in the woods. I decide to wake up the guy driving my cart because he...

    Pet peeves of D&D gaming

Spotlight hogs DM's that handwaive rules they don't know because they are "trying to tell a story" DM's that decide to constantly thwart the cool thing characters do. DM's that don't realize occasionaly you SHOULD thwart the cool thing characters do. Spotlight hogs Players who don't thank the...

Deep down inside, do you eagerly anticipate a TPK?

I'm pretty sure I provoked a TPK at the end of our last session. We'll see though... We along with many other groups were sent up north to offer an alliance with the Giant kingdom because a really nasty "fallen" kingdom has returned from the proverbial dead and war is going to happen. None...

File-Sharing: Has it affected the RPG industry?

Not a strange case. As soon as I own a gaming book, I go looking for a PDF of it. I do all my gaming prep on my laptop and it's easier to switch over to Adobe than to have 5 books open on my computer desk and it's limited space.

    imagination vs battlemat

If you are going to use feats like cleave, combat reflexes, and whirlwind attack along with the AoO rules, having a battlemat keeps the arguing over whether or not certain things can happen to a minimum. I don't map out dungeons as they go on the map. It slows down the game. I am however...

Drinking While Gaming? Warning -- mature content (I hope)

I homebrew. As a result, on occasion I've brought the latest something to a game for people to try. It's never enough to get drunk but some do enjoy it. Mead is especially nice since it fits into the game and I found 15 bottles I brewed in '98 when I moved and I'm so glad I didn't know I had...
