    Going Back in Time...AD&D

Hey, I don't know if you're aware of the new material that's become available for AD&D (and other TSR editions), lately, so I thought I'd make a quick post, just in case. If you're interested in new support material for AD&D, check out OSRIC (do a search on Lulu or rpg.net, or check out the...

    Going Back in Time...AD&D

That's great to hear; having a blast is what it's all about. Recently, my nephew (who is in high school) asked me to DM an AD&D game for him and his friends. We've only had a couple of sessions, but everyone has been having a great time, so far.

    North Texas Role Playing Convention

The con was a blast. I had a good time playing, ran my first official con event (an OD&D session in my Cromlech Tor dungeon), and got to sit on the megadungeon panel -- all of which was very cool.

Do you keep your Players' character sheets?

In my experience, a lost or forgotten character sheet is almost always associated with gamers who play in multiple campaigns. Their gaming stuff gets used and papers can get shuffled around. I wouldn't call it common, but I've seen it happen multiple times.

Do you keep your Players' character sheets?

I offer to, and the majority of players take me up on it. But I don't insist if the player wants to hold on to it. (Of course, those are the players who forget to bring their sheets -- "Damn, I thought it was in my folder with the rest of my stuff...")

Best GAMES AROUND! (NOT D20/4e, White Wolf or Cthulhu)

If I wasn't running D&D or Cthulhu, I'd go for one of the following: Main Game Choices - these are all systems I'm familiar with and would be comfortable running as a main campaign game Basic Roleplaying/Stormbringer 1e/Hawkmoon/Runequest 2e Lejendary Adventure Rolemaster 2e Other Games I'd...

    Dangerous Journeys...

Necropolis apparently started life as a high-level generic "Fantasy Master" (with AD&D in mind) adventure, was subsequently published as a Dangerous Journeys/Mythus adventure, and was later released as a d20 product, as well. There was a recent Knights-n-Knaves discussion on Necropolis, too...

    Dangerous Journeys...

I've skimmed Mythus, but never played it. I too, find the terminology off-putting (and had a similar reaction to the terminology in Lejendary Adventure), although that alone wouldn't be enough to turn me away. T. Foster made an informative post over at Knights-n-Knaves, from the perspective...

    updates of older modules

I generally find that I prefer the original to the remake (or return to/inspired by). I'd rather that creative energy to be put into making "new classics" rather than yet another returning expedition to fill-in-the-classic-adventure-name. But I understand why it's done. I thought the best of...

GMs: how do you keep track of big story arcs?

Yeah, I do after session notes, too. During the session, I use a game reference sheet to keep track of the PCs and NPCs. I scrawl the date of the session on the top of the sheet. After the session, I do all my write-up notes on the back of the sheet, including jotting down stuff like monster...

Temple of Elemental Evil - expectations

Eh, I dunno. I call 'em like I see 'em, wherever I am.

GMs: how do you keep track of big story arcs?

I don't plan big story arcs, but I do organize various pieces that might become part of a story. To me, this is basically the same thing as creating the setting. I map the play area, and place strongholds. Each stronghold controls territory (usually around a 20 mile radius, or so), and each...

Temple of Elemental Evil - expectations

For my part, it isn't that the ToEE couldn't live up to its own hype. I think the lair vs. campaign design flaw is an actual flaw, not just perception (although definitely one most apparent in actual play) That said, I'd be surprised if the "legend factor" didn't influence Gary's thinking...

Temple of Elemental Evil - expectations

I liked Tsojconth. I never ran Forgotten Temple of Tharizdun in actual play, so I'll refrain from commenting on that. I'm generally positive on B2. Like many of the published modules, Tsojconth was a tournament dungeon. I consider that a very different kind of dungeon from the larger...

Any news from Gygax Games yet?

I think the publication of the original maps and notes would be very satisfying. A good test case for this is Rob Kuntz's Original Bottle City, which is, of course, a sublevel from the Castle dungeons. I thought that was an excellent release, and I've seen lots of other positive comments on...

    \m/ The Metal \m/

Hammerfall is a great power metal band. I can't remember the name of the song, but there's a long one where the Venom vocalist has a guest appearance. Edit: It's "Knights of the 21st Century." I also like "Fury of the Wild" off the same album (Chapter V: Unbent, Unbowed, Unbroken).

    \m/ The Metal \m/

Depending on how you look at it, Red Sparowes are probably more of a post-metal or heavy post-rock band than what I would normally think of as metal. However, my tastes have kind of gone in the sludge or post-metal direction, lately, especially when I'm prepping D&D material. I like long songs...
