D&D General Treasure - how much, how often, and how does your group divide it

I run published modules, so most of the GOOD treasure is already listed. However, sometimes players come up with ideas where I have to create a hoard. At that point, I use the charts for 5E. I also sometimes create a randomized roll when players don't automatically find the good stuff, or at...

D&D General What DM-skills are you bad at?

It does take away player agency, but only because it upholds the social contract of the group. Sometimes the many are more important than the few.

D&D General What DM-skills are you bad at?

For me, I feel like I can't effectively roleplay as a DM, because there is too much to keep track of. It takes all my energy.

D&D General Experience Points & Leveling: A Brief Primer on XP in the 1e DMG, and Why It Still Matters

We divvy up loot that way. Everybody who got to pick first so far, automatically goes to the end of the list, with the others rolling to see who gets first pick. When everybody's had a turn, we start over.

D&D General Experience Points & Leveling: A Brief Primer on XP in the 1e DMG, and Why It Still Matters

One of my players found a vicious longsword last session. Nobody else was in a position to even halfway claim it, so it is all his.

D&D General Experience Points & Leveling: A Brief Primer on XP in the 1e DMG, and Why It Still Matters

But if that player had his character search something nobody else thought to do, and had a random roll of that weapon, so be it. Eventually things will even out. Or not. But no matter how many chances you give for loot to be gotten, players have to actually try for it.

D&D General Does anyone else title their D&D sessions?

No, but most of my sessions end mid-"session," due to my son's ADD. He likes the game, but can only focus on it for so long. Yesterday, for example, we only played a little over an hour. Because of this, it usually takes four or five "sessions" to equal a true session.

    NPCs! NPCs! NPCs!

I have a binder with a tab for every chapter of the campaign. I also have a tab for potential wandering NPC's. If there are groups of people in a chapter, I put them in a folder of their own, that way, they can easily be separated from the other groups during play/moved to the next relevant...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Needs New Settings

Why would ANYBODY want to eat black pudding? I tried it once (because you have to, when you are in England) and it was just blah and dry.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Needs New Settings

I don't remember the name of it, but when I went to London a couple of years ago, I went to Sir Ian McKellan's pub (mainly to geek out about Gandalf's staff) and the food was amazing!

D&D General How Was Your Last Session?

We haven't played in a month and a half due to fun things like concussions, so it isn't surprising that we had a short session. It was fun, though. Two of our characters hatched a plan to investigate a suspected cult wagon. The decoy character was supposed to set their horses free and cause a...

D&D General When a character dies and a new one arrives

I let my players "retire" characters if they want to switch things up. However, the new character is still a new character. It is not equal to the rest of the party. Everybody has different XP anyway, though, so it doesn't mess with things too much.

D&D General When a character dies and a new one arrives

A new character comes in at the first level of the lowest tier an existing character is on. Depending on the tier/campaign, there MIGHT be a little extra gear included, but usually they just have the starting equipment.

    D&D General Best DM Screen

Oh, this isn't their PC sheet. That is theirs to deal with. However, I am blessed (cursed?) with having my players all live in my house, so I can help scour their rooms for it if necessary. Lol!

They also have those. Lol! This has maps and handouts that they have discovered in the past, along with information about banks.

    D&D General Best DM Screen

They don't take them away from the table. It stays with me. However, it is there for them to access during the session.

    D&D General Best DM Screen

I have a folder with player info that I put out each session. It only has one copy of everything and stays with me, but is available for anybody to go through.

Official News Level Up Monster Preview: Green Dragon

Thank you for pointing that out. I had been assuming that it took 5-6 turns as well.
