I completely agree. I would just ask the player to give me a quick synopsis of the prophecy, thank them, and let them know that in your world, it might turn out a bit differently.

I have an adventure from it to put on the tail end of our current campaign, assuming my players still like the campaign enough to get to Level 20. I figure if we don't make it that far, I can always use it somewhere else at a different time.

As much as I do resets if the entire group gets TPKed, this late in the campaign, I would just allow it to happen. Sometimes stories do not end well.
