    Was this fair

My wife is not very experienced in DnD mechanics, though she has gamed for some time now. She errs on the side of kindness, something I'm trying to fix. For example, the Mephit encounter, she said they initially melee with me - I convinced her to have them employ spell ability or breath weapon...

    Was this fair

Hey, you folks saying that no solo-dungen gaming should be done, care to speak out on this soapbox? I am curious - not hostile, to your view. B:]B

Hey, I resemble that! Is your issue with gestalt in general, or the class mix itself? B:]B

    Was this fair

That was my thinking. After skimming the CR ranges for typical modules, I leaned towards the 2nd level, since the absolute top CR would be 5th/6th there, vs a 6th/7th in a 3rd. I figured a lone EL 5 (4-4 gestalt) would have a poor survivability in a CR 6, and while no chance vs a CR 7...

    Was this fair

..........Holy Cr@p! 4th level module - I didn't expect anyone to choose this option! With 2 choices at this dungeon level, perhaps I should open my eyes more. Might I ask, how/why balanced at 4th? As to the 'no solo dungeon' - I assume you have an alternative suggestion for solo dm'ing...

    Am I a bamboozler?

Crothian: I considered the game, and thought I'd mention this... A 2nd level fighter in banded mail with a large shield and a 12 dex has a ac 19, as would a chainmail wearing 14 dex fighter. As a 2nd level character gets 900 gp, this does not seem to be an extreme ac. Most of my foes rolled...

    Was this fair

Per the 'Am I a bamboozler?' thread - this is an attempt to get quick feedback so I have an answer when I see my wife tonight! I recently convinced my dm to run me in a solo game. My character is a gestalt hex warrior – war mage of 4/4, and I was run through a 2nd level dungeon. Did I bamboozle...

    Am I a bamboozler?

Drats! Crothian: Damn! I thought I'd estimated the power balance fairly! Hmm, perhaps I should surrender the treasure gained and drop xp to 1/4! I almost died on the 1st round I dealt with the mephits - they were 3.0, so each fired 2 magic missiles at me - luck allowed me to have a few hp...

    Am I a bamboozler?

I recently convinced my dm to run me in a solo game. My character is a gestalt hex warrior – war mage of 4/4, and I was run through a 2nd level dungeon. Did I bamboozle the dm (was it a fair dungeon level to run me through, or was I too high a level)? I’m wondering, as I went through it...

    Wizard Spells

How about as a house rule: If you know all the core spells in your specialty when you are gaining your 2 spells for going up a level, you may learn a spell from any castable school, rather then being restricted due to your specialty. If their are core spells in your specialization that you do...

Feats for specialist wizards - a different incentive

Here's the stuff as I have it. I arranged them by school. Oh, any more ideas? I've put it on the back burner for a few days, but plan to return to it soon. B:]B

Feats for specialist wizards - a different incentive

Hmm. I thought the lack of cost (no level cost or prep time required) made up for the lack of power - specialists can modify spells as early as 1st level (though the DC is pretty killer), sorcerers w/out having to spend a full round, and wizards w/out needing to plan ahead of time. Ok, any...

Feats for specialist wizards - a different incentive

Given that, how do you think it balances with the feat Reduce Spell Area (General, Magic), from post 31? B:]B

Feats for specialist wizards - a different incentive

Greater Fake Death - I like this feat very much – but I’d have it give a +2 save against death effects instead of or in addition to the ability to kill yourself. Gatekeeper - I agree with you, I’d say use opposed caster level checks to oppose summoning – a very easy mechanic. I'll redo my...

Feats for specialist wizards - a different incentive

Roman, what do you think? Concentrated Explosion (Meta-Magic) - Roman Prerequisite: Evocation specialist or Spell Focus Evocation, and either Greater Spell Focus Evocation or Sculpt Spell. Benefit: You focus your area effect evocation spell so that the majority of the energy is centered on a...

Expanding the list of improved familiars

Er - no. Perhaps at 30th? I assume humor - but if not..... the familiars from improved familiar are of size small or less, while the samples in the complete warrior go up to large - but these familiars require not only a caster level, but a high base attack as well. So - if your serious, I'd...

Feats for specialist wizards - a different incentive

Roman, cool feats! Fake Death – I’m rather fond of this feat! It has a very 'master necromancer trick' feal to it! I’d make it a free action useable on another creatures initiative, even if you have already acted (so you can respond to the sword thrust by falling right after being...

Feats for specialist wizards - a different incentive
