    Civility

Actually, I was rather impressed at how civil it has remained. But maybe that's because my ignore list is screening out certain people. Or maybe I'm one of the people that's being the problem.

Zombies that need to stay dead. DEAD.

Detect alignment spells mean I can never create a Darth Sidious/Emperor Palpatine. Unless of course I use alignment cloaking spells/items, but why create an ability you are just going to circumvent it in every campaign that has a paladin in it? Definately a zombie that needs to stay dead...

D&D 5E (2014) Skills in 5E. Do we want them?

I want to go back to 2e proficiencies. Why? Well it had some pretty specific categories for skills like "read lips" and "gaming" that really defined character traits. Sure, you can read lips in 3e and 4e using the Innuendo and Bluff skills (respectively) but generally people forgot about...

Vancian? Why can't we let it go?

I myself miss collecting all the spells. The 4e wizard was a big frustration for me because I wanted more spells to choose from. Not because I wanted to cast them all (not all spells were created equal after all) but I just liked having spells in my library, and casting interesting spells...

    What Has To Be Save-Or-Die?

I meant just the instant death spells being 9th level. Sorry for the confusion.

    What Has To Be Save-Or-Die?

I guess I would also ask whether there would be any objection to moving the spells that cause save or die to 9th level. Finger of Death - 9th level Necromancy Flesh to Stone - 9th level Transmutation Disintegrate - 9th level Evocation and so forth. Spells that take away actions (the save or...

    D&D 5E (2014) Should 5e have save or die?

Well, Perseus was given many artifacts from the gods to avoid death, and told precisely how to defeat the Medusa. So I think he definately has the "ways to avoid death" part down.

    D&D 5E (2014) Should 5e have save or die?

I think I'd rather have the case that a PC suffer the effects which end his career be rare and that be a long lasting consequence. Cheapening death with raise dead bothers me quite a bit. Well I certainly can't argue with that, because 4e combat is a slog, as even its most ardent defenders...

    What Has To Be Save-Or-Die?

I would say that I would object to save or die less if it was a singular monster that makes or break's a hero's career. If it has access to save or die, it should be a figure of legendary power. Orcus. The Medusa (not a medusa). Asmodeus' ruby rod. The poisonous fangs of Set. The spells...

    D&D 5E (2014) Should 5e have save or die?

That's an actual criticism I could understand. However, in my experience the iconic deadly monsters were doing their shtick. A medusa slowing, then immobilizing was turning someone to stone. The fact that she doesn't quite seal the deal doesn't she wasn't doing it. Besides, which is more...

    D&D 5E (2014) Should 5e have save or die?

Stormonu That's another compromise I'd be willing to accept. Certainly deadlier than 4e, but without it being a matter of being randomly screwed over.

Why we need Warlords in D&DN

The Avenger is designed to be an assassin for the gods. The warlord wasn't. Frankly, a similar argument to yours would be that the Fighter (whom the warlord closely resembles) should be a divine class because he takes enough punishment to kill 4 horses and that is unrealistic. You have to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Should 5e have save or die?

The Medusa was the daughter of gods who didn't hang around in dungeon complexes or on random encounter tabes. Orcus in 4e killed people with a save or die effect too. When Orcus does it, its cool. He's a demon lord. When a fairly low level or random monster does it, not so much.

    D&D 5E (2014) Should 5e have save or die?

Not if your warlord or cleric interrupts the third save by expending a resource. Sort of like casting neutralize poison or protection from petrification on people in advance, only you aren't casting it in advance. I don't really get the hate for turning to stone or causing death over 3 rounds...

Why we need Warlords in D&DN

It is a particular build from a particular class. Not all the builds from 3e survived into 4e, and not all builds will survive into 5e. I'll give up the lazylord to keep the Tactical Warlord, the Inspiring Warlord, and the Resourceful Warlord. I'm starting to think that we'll be lucky if...

    D&D 5E (2014) Should 5e have save or die?

Well, Boromir's death isn't a save or die situation, its just a death, and its a death that occurs because of logical progression of the story. Namely the party tensions have driven everyone apart, and thus they are easy pickings for the orcs. Boromir died trying to defend the hobbits. For...

    I like D&D

I would agree that 4e was a reaction against simulationism in rules. The whole point of 4e after all is to narrate what goes on in a scene (particularly combat scenes). However, I don't really see why that means 4e was for people who didn't really like D&D. They kept too much of 3e's...

    D&D 5E (2014) Should 5e have save or die?

For the record guys, I don't disagree with save or die because I'm scared or I need to be coddled. I just value the time I put into the storyline of my campaigns, and I don't do dungeon crawls where the PC's are interchangeable and can be replaced at will. The PC's usually have a place in the...

Why we need Warlords in D&DN

A minor sacrifice in the scheme of things I would say. I don't have much confidence in the survival of healing surges going into 5e. If people hate inspiring word, you know they hate healing surges 10x as much. Only magic and and two weeks bed rest are enough to recover from near mortal...

    In my wishlist: Minions

I'm a big fan of minions, but I must confess I only used them for certain types of monster. Kobold, goblin or even orc minions were fine, but I never used minions for Ogres or Gnolls, much less angels or elementals. But that is a matter of personal taste.
