D&D 5E (2014) Should DDI 5ed be free with paid content?

I think D&D Insider should be free when you buy a hardcover book. I think they could get more money from micro-transactions than the $7 a month they have now, and you wouldn't have people complaining that they aren't getting their money's worth when the content is thin (thus turning them off...

    D&D 5E (2014) Should 5e have save or die?

Actually, Fate points giving rerolls would be a good way to neutralize save or die ending the campaign, and could be fairly modular. I think I would be happy if I had three rolls for every save or die spell/effect I would take, so maybe that's a way to compromise. Now ability and level...

Why we need Warlords in D&DN

I hate PrCs and paragon paths more than epic destinies, but I'm with you. No place for that in the core rules if you want to reduce complexity and satisfy all the fans. Besides, PrC's are just for players that want to powergame anyway. :D

    Classes: Combat versus Noncombat Abilities

Oh, I can see why dual wielding rangers can be popular because of him, I just don't see why they must bed dual-wielding or better at dual-wielding than anyone else. Besides, most Drizzt lovers care more about the drow part than the ranger part. Just make dual wielding a standard drow racial...

    Kill raise dead... dead!

Actually, that would solve all my problems with save or die.... as long as we could cure mortal wounds at low levels like Frodo at weathertop/rivendell. But... those that like save or die won't accept it anything less than instant death at one roll of the die.

    D&D 5E (2014) Should 5e have save or die?

I'm not going to ban necromancy and poison from the game, try again. There is more than one way to skin a cat. I don't see how the game can get along just fine with assassins, whose very job description is killing human beings quickly, without save or die, but monsters and mages can't. If...

    Classes: Combat versus Noncombat Abilities

Don't get me started on rangers. Why are woodsmen dual wielders instead of a sword and board melee class? Archers make sense I suppose, but there is no reason a ranger can't be a guy with a horse and lance? That's how you hunted deer back in the day. Medieval hunting - Wikipedia, the free...

Yer candidate for the monster on 5th MM1

Deepspawn, because it is the monster that makes other monsters.

    D&D 5E (2014) Should 5e have save or die?

I think it would definately better if all classes could get in on save or die. I've never understood why "disintegrate" was save or die, but "knife to the head" wasn't. If the undo buttons are availabe at low levels (neutralize poison, stone to flesh, etc) and are available for low cost, then...

Vancian? Why can't we let it go?

There is the 3e Warlock as well, which though underpowered, is an example of how a non-Vancian D&D caster can work. But Sorcerer is a generic term for magic-user, so it serves as a good name for an alternate wizard. I'm sure the sorcerer has its fans, but are they fans because it is an...

    Classes: Combat versus Noncombat Abilities

I think the divorce from skills and combat style is long overdue. In Skyrim I can play a sword and board fighter who is good at speech and persuasion. Why can I roleplay more with a fighter in a CRPG than in D&D?

    D&D 5E (2014) Should 5e have save or die?

See that's the thing. I can see having Vancian magic itself be optional more than I can see save or die being optional. Having a wizard and sorcerer solves the Vancian magic problem quite well. I like Vancian magic so I play a wizard. Joe doesn't so he plays a sorcerer. Joe doesn't like...

D&D 5E (2014) If EVERY edition of D&D has had some form of it, shouldn't 5e also?

I think everyone who is arguing against Vancian magic is arguing for the sake of arguing, or to point out that people want another option. Everyone knows that Vancian magic is coming back in 5e, because Vance is as hard to kill as his anagram Vecna. As for what exists common to all...

Vancian? Why can't we let it go?

I think though Celebrim that the Sorcerer need not be Vancian. To those that really love Vancian magic the 3e sorcerer was a needless adulteration. To those that hate Vancian magic, the 3e Sorcerer didn't go far enough away from it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Should 5e have save or die?

Should 5e have save or die spells or poisons? I hate it. I think its terrible design for a table top game, and it would have to be an incredibly impressive system to overlook the fact that weeks of Sundays, Sundays I could be using for any number of activities, are rendered moot by a single...

    Kill raise dead... dead!

If you have save or die spells, you have to have raise dead. Now I think this will be the unfathomable chasm that can't be reconciled by modular rules. Should 5e have save or die spells and poisons?

Why we need Warlords in D&DN

She did just fine because she was a novel character, not because she was well supported in archetype by the AD&D rules.

Why we need Warlords in D&DN

Well, there are also many times in the books where she encourages other party members, notably Sturm who got gloomy and defeatist for most of the book before he died. Mostly though, Laurana was written to be a selfish and immature princess who had to grow and find her strength to be a leader...

Why we need Warlords in D&DN

No, she was the leader of the half of the companions that found the Dragon Orb in Icewall and killed Feal-Thas. She was the one who used the silver dragons' ice breath weapon to dam the Vingaard River and then use brass dragons to release it to flood the Vingaard Plains. It was Laurana who...

Why we need Warlords in D&DN

Tanis isn't a warlord. The only thing he led his party to was to the bottom of the ocean. Laurana on the other hand, THAT's a warlord. She took squabbling elves, dwarves, and Solamnic Knights from different nations, whipped them into a cohesive army in under a month, and pushed the Dragon...
