D&D 5E (2014) Can 5E bring the wonder and mystery back to Magic Items?

I'm not too concerned about what the default is, provided that if the default is an assumed magic item progression baked into the game's monster design, then an alternative system similar to 4E's inherent bonuses/alternative rewards is presented as an equivalent option, not just an obscure...

ZEITGEIST The Flint Irregulars, whose portraits you may have seen

Dying Skyseer session #3 finished! On the evening of Day 1, the constables decided to head up into the Cloudwood to visit Nevard. They came across Morena's kidnapping, though, and managed to subdue and handcuff Renard before he'd killed all of the Kell thieves. However, the fog obscured that...

ZEITGEIST The Flint Irregulars, whose portraits you may have seen

Finally had our second Dying Skyseer session last night! I was pretty rusty and botched the first scene a bit, but things settled down after that. The party decided to follow up on Dr von Recklinghausen first. At the House of Blue Birds, they got the story about "Officer Porter" from the...

D&D 3.x Considering 4e, coming back after a long time away from v3.5

It also isn't enough to simply modify the DCs; you also have to make the number of failures fixed across the challenge complexities. The errata fixes them at 3.

D&D 3.x Considering 4e, coming back after a long time away from v3.5

Like others, I suggest a DDI sub shared among the group. A copy of the Rules Compendium is also handy to have at the table. Finally, for the DM, I suggest at least DMG2. It has a lot of information on how to set up and run skill challenges that will make yours much more interesting. It also has...

Status of Adventure 3 - Digging for Lies

Awesome, thanks for the update! Now that my players have caught up with their lives a bit (moves, a marriage, then the holidays), I've started getting emails suggesting dates to play. I'm glad that even with a couple of months off, Zeitgeist still has its hooks in them. :)

ZEITGEIST ZEITGEIST MapTool file - Adventure One

Even though I'm already done with the first adventure, this file will still be handy. Thanks!

    WotBS WotBS: Inherent Bonuses?

Perfect, thanks! I'll look at those adventures and check out those items, and use that to decide which way to go. :)

4e Themes - need an update?

I actually don't think so. In the cases where I could probably have dropped a PC with relative ease, the NPCs in question had strong RP reasons to prioritize other actions. The Duchess dove out her window rather than blasting my Vekeshi Mystic player, the saboteurs focused on trying to blow up...

    WotBS WotBS: Inherent Bonuses?

:w: I'm currently running Zeitgeist for non-local friends through MapTool and Google+ hangouts, but now some local friends have asked me to run a game for them. Given their interest in heroic fantasy specifically, I thought WotBS would be a good fit. I'm wondering about treasure, though. Would...

4e Themes - need an update?

I might have dropped one of them once or twice, but no specific instances are coming to mind.

4e Themes - need an update?

That takes the flavour away. Marius' wording is clear and concise. I'd tweak it ever so slightly: Level 5: Courage Under Fire. Once per day, when an ally becomes bloodied, you may gain an action point.

    D&D 4E Reply if you love 4e

Love 4E. When my Iron Heroes campaign wraps up in a few months, I'm looking forward to never having to run d20/3.5 again. 4E has spoiled me for systems that throw the DM to the wolves. I'm never going back.

4e Themes - need an update?

I like the Spirit Medium one quite a bit. I think my Martial Scientist will like hers, too. One thing about the Yerasol Veteran ones -- they're both situational. A lot of the other themes have bonuses that are either constant or readily usable in most encounters. Yerasol Veterans only get...

    D&D 4E 200 Words or Less: Pitch WotC a New 4e Setting

The homebrew setting I've been working on pilfers liberally from the work of others, so it wouldn't qualify, but I'll share it anyway. :) The Allabar entry in MM3 inspired me initially, so I took that concept and applied it to the premise of the 3.5 setting Midnight, which is like Middle-Earth...

ZEITGEIST The Flint Irregulars, whose portraits you may have seen

We haven't been able to get another session since that last one, because Murdok's player moved in with and got married to Reginald's player, and started a new job on top of it! So at least it's happy events that have kept us from playing. We're hoping to have our second Dying Skyseer session...

4e Themes - need an update?

I don't have any immediate ideas for higher-level theme perks, but I'm about to resolve my Spirit Medium's Speak with Spirit power for the first time, and was wondering whether you meant the DC to increase with player level, or target level? It isn't clear from the rules text in the Player's...

The Dying Skyseer - release date?

Cool, thanks. That's really helpful for me. :) I think it's awesome that we can interact with you guys here and get this kind of info so quickly. It's a huge boon. Thanks a lot for being so available!
