Todd's Free Character art thread. Again.

I've kinda wanted to play..for the last little while...a necromancer. But not an ordinary necromancer. A necromancer who is lavishly flamboyant who, despite his choosen field, (his fathers dying wish) embraces the thrill and power of evocation. He would be a rich braggart who likes to swagger...

New "What sort of RPG player are you?" poll (this one by Charles Ryan)

    Character Player--80% Storyteller--70% Tactician--55% Casual Gamer--55% Weekend Warrior--40% Power Gamer--15% Specialist--0% Seems pretty apt.

Monster Manual Art by ReeboKesh - Updated 16/11/06

Great idea. Way back when...I was facinated with birds, so I took our animal encyclopeadia set and drew every bird in it--it took me over a year. If I had any resonable amount of time I would do the same thing that you are doing. It would be really great if the other artists on the boards...

Wheel of Time, where to start?

I am also in the camp that says don't bother; but, if you must, I would suggest waiting a few weeks and picking up the first book again. Two of my friends and myself read the first few chapters and went: 'blech' why bother? I desided to give it another go a few months later and devoured...

Loss of what 4 spells would change the game dramatically?

I don't feel any setting, that I've seen, truly accounts for the drastic changes that a single spell would accomplish. I guess I see the question a bit backwards. Therefore, I feel most spells can be interchanged without significant consequences--unless you are dealing with direct oppositions...

The Value of Art, or, "Bad" is in the Eye of the Beholder

Well, it was a question mostly for my benefit. To me, any discussion that includes an aspect that becomes all encompassing doesn't retain any merit toward a topic--because it can be applied to anything. For example: you believe all actions contain an intrinsic value regardless of intent...

The Value of Art, or, "Bad" is in the Eye of the Beholder

An interesting question for you Merlion. What action, or pursuit, or idea, in the known universe would you consider worthless? And, if none, how could you conceivably use it in a structured argument about anything: as it doesn't have any pertinent meaning?

What do you think WotC should be making?

I think I might stand in line overnight for this one. If it was done well....with a Brom cover.

The Value of Art, or, "Bad" is in the Eye of the Beholder

Don't take it too hard, Merlion, we aren't trying to be condesending. It is just that, I think, many of us have held your exact opinions before. When I first read your post I had a major flashback to my first year undergrad design course...white hot indignant passion lashing out at the evil...

The Value of Art, or, "Bad" is in the Eye of the Beholder

Merlion, I thing the major problem you have is that you experienced a significant emotional response to what you considered to be an ignorant opinion guised as fact. Most of the posters here did not share your exasperation or even you interpretation of the situation you experienced. I, for...

The Value of Art, or, "Bad" is in the Eye of the Beholder

Perhaps if you simplified your approach to the topic without allowing the myriad of possibilities cloud your understanding. Think of a small child learning to play violin (I'm not sure if you are familiar with this awful noise but I assure you it isn't pleasant). Contextualize this with the...

Help Wanted with ideas for Chapter 3 (levels 9-14) of my campaign

The Value of Art, or, "Bad" is in the Eye of the Beholder

I don't think 'taste' and 'quality' have much in common. And I might suggest--if you are in fact curious as to how others attain their critical approach--to separate the idea of personal preference and cultural relevance. Just an idea to help you understand some peoples approaches to critique...
