    Puzzles and Traps

I have used several puzzles. But, I must admit, I really don't like them anymore. One of the tricks I used to keep my players happy and engaged was: add levels of success instead of pass/fail. Another was allowing characters with varying intelligence a different scaling of clues. So that...

    OotS #353

I laughed so hard I couldn't keep reading. It took me five minutes to read the strip...I started up again when he smoked the druid in the face. Best OotS in a long time.

"Example- Pilot for Pilate, furry for fury, penitents for penitence. (tell me if that's a European spelling)" No. It most certainly isn't. In order of error...idiocy...typo...miss-edit. Antiquated use of consumption: wasting of the body. Derived from it being a synonym for tuberculosis...

    Help with character concept

soulknife/psychic warrior I'd progress one by one for the first few levels and then just take one class and run with it. If your more interested in flavour this might be your easiest option. Rather than taking a monk class take a warrior class and specialize in unarmed combat. my 2 cp

    Character Concepts

I've kinda wanted to play..for the last little while...a necromancer. But not an ordinary necromancer. A necromancer who is lavishly flamboyant who, despite his choosen field, (his fathers dying wish) embraces the thrill and power of evocation. He would be a rich braggart who likes to swagger...

spells you think are the wrong level

I always thought dispel magic should be first level and completely universal...don't remember if it is now or not.

    Discouraging Spotlight Hogging

Thought I should elaborate on my 'first person' remark as it seems vague at a second glance. I make my players speak in first person, not only to make the game run smoother and promote staying in character, but so that each player takes ownership of their actions. There is no 'so-in-so keeps...

    Discouraging Spotlight Hogging

Pick an inanimate object such as a rock or statuette. Create a rule that states no one may talk unless they posess that item. Ensure a fair method of despensing the item and alternate timely. I have played in a few groups that used this method...and it worked very well. I consider this...

Running two games from the one story

I've had a lot of fun with this. I have never allowed two groups to meet but have allowed the consequences of one groups actions effect the others. I have one on-going plot...started aprox. 1991 ish involving an entire continent at war through a mixture of national, religious, supernatural...

    Hungry, Hungry Mimics! [SHACKLED CITY]

S P O I L E R A L E R T Oh, yeah....that's right! My character actually almost died during that encounter. The mimic took the shape of a gong....I got stuck to the entire surface of one side while the rest of the group was pounding on the thing.....gong....gong....gong!!!! lol!!!! In...

    Hungry, Hungry Mimics! [SHACKLED CITY]

Can't really help with this one. My DM took some major liberies with this encounter. He made the mimic intelligent and we conversed with it quite regularily. We actually ended up feeding it with all of the badguys we could find. In fact, we found out more information from that mimic than we...
