Why Do You Play Evil Characters?

Sometimes I find the absurdity of the most ruthless course of action to be funny.

What do your PCs do with prisoners?

Usually some kind of forced labour...torchbearer, pack mule, explorer of dark rooms, guide, oh and one time we forced a bardic journalist to writing nothing but glowing heroic accounts about our party in the local paper.

DMs: What are your character pet peeves?

The 'big concept' character who wishes to micromanage their life. Example: a merchant who wants to know how his commodities, holdings, and labour are doing...in detail...with relevant gp value...and timelines. Makes me want to roll in natural disasters and roaming barbarian tribes. If I...

    Disguise self ftw!

Once sold a 'magical' map for 500gp with the help of some sleight of hand, a hand-drawn map and a few mend spells. Nothing convinces a greedy treasure hunter more than a map that fixes itself right after you rip it.

(Forked) What are your 10 must-read/see geek

Most quoted movies at the game table for me are probably: Blues Brothers Star Wars Princess Bride Holy Grail Ghostbusters Dogma Spaceballs Brazil The Big Lebowski Lord of the Rings Yep...that seems about right.

(Forked) What are your 10 must-read/see geek

Okay...sticking to books...and avoiding sources like Gilgamesh and Beowulf or the various fairy tales and short stories...not touching nonfiction...tip toeing around transitional classics by Verne, Lovecraft, Swift, and Haggard: this is my list of the ten must read geek books....in no...

The gaming community: online compared to the physical world

I think the anonymity and the physically social detachment of online forums allow a certain absence of decorum and temptation for hyperbole of opinion. I tend to look at some of the strange conversations had on even these boards as a vague attempt at communicating an elemental feeling...not...

    What 3 Things?

I've been gaming for 31 years. I really have just as much fun now as I did then. The only possible changes I would make aren't feasible. 1) Add more hours in the day. 2) Have a constant sense of wonder and discovery. 3) Revisit past friends and games instead of hitting 'the family' on...

Okay. That looks awesome. There are some big names responsible for this.

    Best use of green slime

I seem to remember in the first room of Labyrinth of Madness that there were invisible trolls with black puddings on the the end of poles. The poles held the black puddings in glass globes at the top that smashed open for direct pudding hits. The same could be done with green slime.

    Killing a character through roleplaying

One of my favorite moments from an Alternity game I ran years ago was during a pitched gun fight between a group of gang members and the PCs. One of the PCs was playing a holoscreen actor who was living life dangerously by 'living the life' and developing his method acting for his movies...

Welp, We can chalk up one success for a WOTC Basic D&D set

I was playing for over a year before I really opened a book. I think the social climate and timing is what is really important for passing the torch.

    The Work-Game: Any Suggestions?

The method you are speaking of is a motivational and morale enhancement tool. The increase of motivation and morale increase productivity through increased workload and percentage of productive work time (meaning your productivity margins are higher due to better than average quality work)...

    Poll: Favored class & why?

Wizard. No other character blossoms like a mage. You have to nourish and protect...tend to them like the delicate wonder they are. And then, just as all your companions are becoming competent masters in their trade, you learn the secrets to the multiverse and manage to stride the boundaries...

    Warts and all...

Generally, I loath catch-phrases that permeate an authors work regardless of character or circumstance. I tend to feel the same way about repeated turn-of-phrase in description...but this can be forgiven depending on the generality or length of the compositions. I detest explanatory...
