The main effect of the wealth guideline on our games is to induce complaining on the players' part when they don't have as much wealth as the guidelines say. :) This happens whether I'm DMing or playing, strangely. ;)

Exactly. In a game I play in, our DM interpreted the rules that way, but we didn't know it until recently because it didn't come up until 17th level. Our barbarian has never fallen unconscious before. He has died, from save-or-die effects, though. In other words, it's not the end of the world...

When you get 2nd level spells, False Life should get a high priority. Many people overlook this spell since it wasn't in the 3.0 PHB.

While you have his body, you might as well raise him yourself. It'll make him lose a level, unlike his allies' True Rez and will make his allies waste super-valuable spell components. Then keep him drugged up in a dank cell somewhere. Maybe set a trap for his allies or cast Mind Blank on him...

No they don't. 4 levels of fighter compared to 4 levels of a poor BAB class is only +2 to hit, while firing into melee is -4 to hit. Honestly, I don't see how such a character would work. A fighter/mage can only contribute in melee with a bunch of buffing spells, and he doesn't have access...

It's funny that many posters in this thread assume that the rogue does more damage than the fighter, but cannot stay in contact with monsters as long and that this is what balances them. I mean, I understand why people say that and that it is the case. It's just that in a game I currently play...
