    AC and description

Perhaps the kobolds are not proficient in the armor, and so don't get the bonus?

    Excerpt: Swarms

Has anyone tried a 5-swarm fight against the KotS characters? I wonder if the Dragonborn will make a difference with his breath weapon.

    Excerpt: Swarms

For the size of the swarm, I think it's helpful to consider that the central square is only the core of the swarm, with parts of it spilling out to fill the 3x3 area of its aura. Add in 4 more micro-swarms, and you can cover up to 45 squares with squirming death. That's a pretty terrifying swarm.

    KotS: Errata?

Auras are always on, IIRC, and affect creatures either when they enter it or at the beginning of their turn. That's from some previews of creatures with aura-like powers, but not sure if it applies in this case (still waiting for my copy)

    Excerpt: Archons (merged)

I remember when the Lich template first came out and people thought it was weak. Now, apply it to the hailscourge, and that encounter Frost Shield suddenly becomes recharge 5, 6. Scary. Very, very scary.

Excerpt: Minions. Go forth mine minions! Bring havoc with your 1 hp [merged]

Random thought here... Level+4 is supposed to be a potentially beatable, but most likely fatal encounter (to at least one party member, maybe more). Level-4 minions are still relevant in combat, if little more than an action-waster. So what would happen if you had an encounter with 80 minions...

How does the residuum look like?

I picture it being specific bits of the item in question. Like you could get the residuum from a ring in the form of the gem, then use it in making a sword by setting the gem in the hilt.

NO! NEVER ENOUGH! Alignment is my big question.

10 minutes if you have 5 party members. Just give them to whatever party member you think is most likely to use them.

    Immortality brainstorm

I thought I'd create a thread to brainstorm different forms of epic immortality. That is, different ways that characters can gracefully exit from the campaign at 30th, while still leaving them open as NPCs or campaign elements for future games: For Parts Unknown: You simply leave. Walking off...

    Shape magic exploit?

It's been said (not sure where, and can't check at work) that epic powers have no power source. Possibly the article on powers. So sorry, this doesn't work.

So, what are the uses for forced movement?

House rule alert: I may, for extra cinematic flair, have anyone subjected to forced movement deal an amount of damage equal to their Fort to any object they hit, continuing movement if it's enough to destroy said object, otherwise (save) falling prone and taking damage equal to the object's...

Minions are alien visitors from another kind of game

Maybe it's just me, but I LIKE the cinematic style, and I like the minion rules. In my playtest, after cleaving through hordes of kobolds, one of my players hit one that didn't get one-shotted. His response was to shout "AHA! A worthy opponent!" THAT is the reason for minions. They actually...

    Monk = __________ Striker

First instict is psionic, but psionics already have a great striker lined up in the Soulknife. Could double up though, like martial strikers. Second is divine. Divine needs a striker, and monks fit that role to a T. I don't see its abilities being called prayers, though the paladin's hardly fit...

Keep on the Shadowfell character sheet scans

Random thoughts on each one: Fighter: Power attack is a straight -2 for a +3 bonus? Not sure if that's a good trade. This also puts an end to the power attack spreadsheets. Rogue: Where does the extra damage from Sly Flourish come from? Charisma looks like. Paladin: You get to choose the...

[Ampersand] Bill Slavicsek on campaign settings

The problem is with campaign setting books, they run hard into the law of diminishing returns. The first couple books, which tend to be rather broad in scope, sell well. As it goes on, and the corners of the map are filled in, you get less room to play around in and the books become less...

    Daily Art Preview

Okay, back to the darkling, I just looked at it and...umm...am I the only one to find it vaguely offensive in that "accidental racial charicature" sort of way? It's somewhere between Watto and Gargamel in its vague offensiveness.
