    Class Acts: Ranger

As a bit of a meta-note, the level 6 utility doing psychic damage follows a trend I've been noticing for rangers and martial classes in general. There seem to be a lot more doing psychic damage from being just THAT scary. I'm hoping this is testing the waters for a martial controller type class...

Mearls talks about his inspiration for the 4e classes

Ohh! I remember that now! That's the movie with the puppets and the vulture-things called skeksis, right? ;)

    Ampersand: Draconians!

No, Brass and Bronze are back. They're just reserving them for Draconomicon 2, along with the Cobalt dragon. Chromatics already got the "cousins we don't like to talk about" with Grey, Purple, and Brown, which I'm guessing is what the new Metallic dragons will be treated like in official fluff...

Mearls talks about his inspiration for the 4e classes

Though he's a two-weapon fighter instead of a great weapon fighter, I always think of Paladin Alexander Anderson when I think of an Avenger. He's fast, he teleports, he likes to fight opponents one on one and uses powers to isolate and cut them off from their allies and sources of magic. Also...

I really don't like the Compendium links in articles.

Odds are this is not going to be the standard, this is just for articles that accompany the PHB3 prerelease. As I understand, original plan was to just put it out via the Compendium and Character Builder, but that plan was altered when people complained. This format also just wouldn't work for...

    Ampersand: Draconians!

    1) So this is either an indication that the main concepts of Dragonlance are getting absorbed into core, thus leaving a book as unnecessary, or a preview, paving the way for a Dragonlance setting in 2010. And so the debate continues. 2) Brass, bronze, and...cobalt? That's new. Wonder what it's...

New 4e updates to old 3.5 products

Out of all the elder evils, I'm probably most interested in seeing the Hulks updated for 4e. The five of them working together to me seems indicative of 4e's encounter philosophy more than any other in that book.

Anyone else feel a sudden desire to convert to Erathis? I sure do. :D

Inspiration from the 'Classic 4 D&D Classes'

Don't have to worry about that in my world. The Magic Country knows a LOT about swords. After all, they have elite Swordmage Janissaries. I figure the Ranger Legion of the Martial Empire was created in response to and to deal with the challenges presented by the Primal Lands. Etc.

Inspiration from the 'Classic 4 D&D Classes'

Basing them off of stereotypical ancient cultures, in a 4e "Power source nation": Divine is based off of Egypt, removing the pharoah. It's ruled by a collective of various gods' cults, with the most powerful god's priest as the de facto ruler of the country. The cults have their various rituals...

4th ed Divine Power excerpt on WOTC "Miracle Worker"

D'oh! I just realized where I saw it before: This class. I forgot I'd looked at it before on RPG.net when they figured out the file system for previews.

4th ed Divine Power excerpt on WOTC "Miracle Worker"

I swear that 20th level ability is one I've seen before. It's giving me the weirdest sense of deja vu, like there's one out there with the same name and effect. I can't for the life of me figure out where, though

Dragon 376 - MM3 Playtest: The Volcanic Dragon

I worry that, as Elites instead of Solo, they may not get a chance to use their Volcanic Catastrophe. They may be the idea (take it out before it blows!) but still seems to really break with previous dragons (which could be good or bad). If it were to be solo, I think a fear effect and the...

    2010: Is it Dragonlance? (hint)

I can see it now. Wizards holds a contest to see who is the biggest Dragonlance fan. The lucky winners are taken to Gencon Indy, which is celebrating the 20th anniversary of Dragonlance, and holding a panel discussion with the creators of Dragonlance. Wizards will also use the opportunity to...

Dragonmarks, Revenants, Rust Monsters! - Lots of New DDI Articles

That rust monster article was awesome. Good explanation for why the rust monster economy will never work, and why they used to destroy magic items but don't anymore. Also, the bit about blood was hilarious.

    Wardens in Fantasy

The first two that popped into mind for me were Bernard from Codex Alera and Morgan from the Dresden Files. Both are strong elemental magic-users with ties to earth. In combat, both like to use their earth powers to throw their enemies around, pin them to the ground, and trip them up. Bernard...

    Wardens in Fantasy

I like the Warden class and I'm planning to play one in my next game. However, my main problem with it is that there's a dearth of archetypes to draw on. There seem to be very few characters in fantasy who you can point to and say "That's a warden!" So can anyone find examples of Wardens in...

    EPG Excerpt: Rituals

Technically, since it's tied to the Mark of Warding, it can't show up outside of Eberron, unless you introduce dragonmarks into your game.
