Sagiro's Story Hour: The FINAL Adventures of Abernathy's Company (FINISHED 7/3/14)

Just wanted to say I really love these kinds of posts. As a gm, I really can appreciate the bad guy pov and love seeing how the Black Circle got around the plans of the PCs. Now I have a question: (if you don't mind sharing) How did you design the Black Circle's reaction to the PC's intricate...

    Defenders that actually defend

Well, I know for my paladin, he uses Vengeful Vigilance (10th level Stance) that allows him to free action Challenge anyone that attacks someone else within 5 squares. I'm 11th, so my challenge does 11pts when it goes off, +6 if they are bloodied (Turathi Frenzy, he's Turathi Highborn). 17pts...

    Skill Challenge DCs

Well, I don't actually tally experience. PCs level at a regular pace during the game (usually every few sessions), based on story or when the players indicate they are ready. I'm new to using the skill challenges, but my hope is that the PCs will want to reach the goal without failure because...

    Allowing Autohits from Another PC

Well, this particular power does not damage the target, it forces them to attack someone you choose with a basic attack at a bonus to hit and damage. I can see using it on an ally when you can't reach the enemy and the enemy has no adjacent targets to attack.

    That makes sense...thanks!

    Allowing Autohits from Another PC

If you are targeted by another PC's power, can you allow them to hit you automatically? Specific example: Bolts of Bedevilment, Turathi Highborn Paragon power, allows you to target a creature and force them to make a basic attack at a +2 attack with +2d6 fire damage. Since the target is...

    Skill Challenge DCs

Is there a thread of sample Skill Challenges? (I don't have Search so can't check). It would cool to have a place where folks here can post their samples for others to use.

    Skill Challenge DCs

This would be cool. More modular bits to use in challenges beyond what has been presented thus far (skill checks, complexity failure system). A way to ratchet up the tension and make it more fun to go to a skill challenge. Nothing in DND is as exciting as the words, "Roll Initiative" It...

    Skill Challenge DCs

To clarify, I'm totally agreeing with you :) I've found that building mini-games around the skill challenges are much more enjoyable than just making static checks, but the only way to really make those work is to increase the chance of failure. (by increasing DCs) Also, if they do hit the...

    Skill Challenge DCs

Adding a way to counteract failures is pretty easy. Just add a mechanic for it if the skill challenge calls for it. I recently did one where each pc had a choice to help succeed or defend the party. If they chose to defend, they could make an attack roll (using a power if they chose) to...

    Skill challenges as conflicts

Here's something I posted for a friend and one way to build them: Before you start: Determine what the ultimate goal of the skill challenge is, what are the PCs trying to accomplish? Is the goal something quick and easy? Is it a task intended to be accomplished during combat? Or is it a...

    Skill Challenge DCs

Exactly. In fact, I want more failures because to me, these are just complications. If the party fails 3 times, I place an obstacle in the PCs' way (like a combat challenge or something deterimental to the overall goal) and then if they are successful removing the obstacle, they continue on...

    Skill Challenge DCs

Good suggestion Obryn. I've built all my skill challenges to be difficult to succeed and thats a good suggestion for raising the difficulty. The reason they are hard to succeed is that I'm building the challenges to add interesting complications when they fail. To succeed without any...

    Skill Challenge DCs

I ran some skill challenges for my group last night, using the errata'd skill challenge DCs, but it seemed to both the players and I that the DCs were much too low. Ex: They were 3rd level, so according to errata, the DCs are Easy 5, Moderate 10, Hard 15. On a trained skill, assuming its a...

Help me create a skill challenge: Getting into the zombie mall

We played last night and the challenges went very well. They failed the Getting into the Zombie Mall with 2 successes to go, so I did a combat challenge, followed by a continuance of the challenge (keeping the tally of successes and resetting the failures). They managed to get inside with no...

Help me create a skill challenge: Getting into the zombie mall

Here's another part of the session that I came up with today: Destroying the Mall You must drive the propane truck into the garage, next to the boiler room, without stalling out or getting overwhelmed by zombies. There are three parts to the challenge. 1) You must get the truck running...

Updated version: Skill Challenge: Getting into the Mall Complexity: 5 (12 successes before 3 failures) Primary Skills: Acrobatics, Athletics, Diplomacy, Bluff, Stealth, Streetwise Other Skills: Perception Victory: The PCs manage to make their way into the mall, without the zombies getting in...

Help me create a skill challenge: Getting into the zombie mall

Excellent ideas. Thanks aco175 for some of the descriptors I can use for their actions. I'm mainly using my own limited experience around a mall (as a patron) so it helps to get some ideas from someone familiar with the inner workings. I'm going to try to incorporate the ideas you and...
