D&D 5E (2014) WotC: Why Dark Sun Hasn't Been Revived

Possibly the history of genocide by the still-alive perpetrators. (Yeah, they are all bad guys, except for the one in Kurn who is being better now) Maybe the hinted at forced breeding?

D&D General Deep Thoughts on AI- The Rise of DM 9000

You know, I might be more interested in running a group of AI players than playing under an AI DM. Tuning the kinds of players would be a fun experiment.

D&D General 1991 Dark Sun Setting Overview and Speculation

Dark Sun comments from Kyle Brink scoop from Athas.org https://athas.org/news/2b026551-9728-4164-a97b-706616e08624 “I’ll be frank here, the Dark Sun setting is problematic in a lot of ways. And that’s the main reason we haven’t come back to it. We know it’s got a huge fan following and we have...

D&D General 1991 Dark Sun Setting Overview and Speculation

Well, when one stares at surface maps of Mars and the Moon long enough you start seeing impact craters being hit by later impacts right on the crater’s ring. Well, I did at least. Way too much staring at those maps, I tell ya. So that was just a creative opportunity to drop something in as an...

D&D General 1991 Dark Sun Setting Overview and Speculation

Thanks for asking! I posted a sequence of in progress maps all the way to the ending map. I ran into a few hurdles due to adding far too many symbols for my computer to handle so I had to come up with creative solutions that I found suboptimal. The final map would take forever opening and...

    D&D 5E (2014) Upping Challenges for 7 Players

More things need to happen on the enemy side, or the boss enemy needs more durability. More HP, more damage resistance, lair actions, legendary/villain actions. Mix and match.

    D&D 5E (2024) So Will 'OneD&D' (6E) Actually Be Backwards Compatible?

Indeed, I covered in a single sentence. 😀

    D&D 5E (2024) So Will 'OneD&D' (6E) Actually Be Backwards Compatible?

I think the big area of non-compatibility will be subclasses for 2014 5e and subclasses for the same class in 1D&D. The 3/6/10/14 sub class features in 1D&D means 5e subclasses that can’t fit that will take non trivial modification. But a 2014 5e class using subclasses designed for that class...

    D&D 5E (2024) So Will 'OneD&D' (6E) Actually Be Backwards Compatible?

I agree with these as the likely outcomes. Though right now it feels mostly like 1e/2e is likely.

    Stars/Worlds Without Number (General Thread)

The $200,000 stretch goal fills me with joy, and his writing about his thinking around the subject earns my respect so much.

    Matt Colville weighs in.

To be fair, Matt has referred to D&D as “the boomer game” on and off for a bit now in streams when he points out how the game adheres to designs set in place back in the early 70s evolved from wargaming. And I’ve heard him call it “the Seattle company“ for a few years at least. WotC buying the...

WotC Backs Down: Original OGL To Be Left Untouched; Whole 5E Rules Released as Creative Commons

I think they wanted this settled before the next playtest was put out because the upcoming playtest surveys would have been rubbished. Still mad this seems to have killed Arcadia.

WotC Backs Down: Original OGL To Be Left Untouched; Whole 5E Rules Released as Creative Commons

Well well. I feel like this whole thing was so unfortunate because it has left a new scar among the community that might never heal. But I’m glad at least for this. My cynicism expects a new license for the new edition changes but it will probably not be OGL-related.

    Matt Colville weighs in.

For context, I think a lot of people’s reactions to Matt’s thread would be better informed if they first watched his recent Revolutionary Acts YouTube video, then follow up with reading that thread.

To expand this from just steam age. Widen to full pulp adventure spectrum from steam age to Nicola Tesla time to fighting Nazis. Kind of the spectrum covered under the D20-era Forbidden Kingdoms. Drop this into some iterum that was forked in a distant era like Latter Earth’s background and...

    DnD Shorts final video

Even those of us who experienced this in our lives then can easily forget what this was like. My groups’ had regulars drop off because half the group drifted to WoW and those groups never restarted once we were down to a couple of us.
