Boston Gameday Aug 22nd, 2009 (logistics and directions linked from 1st post)

Hey, everyone! First, a big THANKS! to Piratecat for graciously offering up his house and his time to us. I know I [and many others] eagerly look forward to these events. So, as usual, count me (and likely my friend Bruce) in; we will be happy to bring breakfast-type foods, assuming we use...

So gameday how did it go??

To this point, I've been a 3.5/Pathfinder guy; this was my first experience actually playing 4E. And I thought it went amazingly well, overall; the group I lucked into gaming with was quite fun; we really FELT like an established party of adventurers, and I'd love to hook up for some more...

    Poll - I'm over 25 and I've read....

I'm more well=read than I thought; I've read at least one book from everyone on that list. (And I think you overlooked Tad Williams and Janny Wurts, two of my favorite authors.)

My phone call with Creg Leeds

I really don't understand how so many people in this thread (at least a handful) seem to read so much contempt and hostility into this conversation, when nothing suggests that Greg Leeds was anything but pleasant. I'm certain that he was pleasant; I seriously doubt that the President of a...

How much of a Collector are you?

I think I fall mainly into the "Collector" category, though I also fall into the "Completionist" category as well, especially when it comes to settings I enjoy. I have a ton of assorted stuff, ranging from OD+D to 3.5. My favorite stuff? I have a complete run of the 2E Dark Sun line, the 2E...

Give Me Your Campaign Wiki Advice!

Our Age of Worms wiki is here... (AgeofWorms » home) It's relatively easy to maintain and update, but took some time to set up initially.

Campaign Wikis are A lot of Work!

Yes, wikis are ALOT of work to maintain. I've been keeping a wiki for our Age of Worms campaign since we started; mostly, it's a labor of love. I try to keep on top of it, but sometimes I just get lazy, and let it slide for a few weeks. For those interested, it's located at...

    Why DON'T you pirate?

That's part of it for me, as well. Let me preface this by saying that I prefer print editions whenever possible, especially for newer items. But there were a few items from earlier editions of D+D that I missed out on when they were in print (a few of the PLanescape, Ravenloft, and Dark Sun...

WotC puts a stop to online sales of PDFs

Yes, we all acknowledge piracy is rampant, and it hurts publishers, retailers and legitimate consumers like. But it is unfortunately, a fact of modern life. I certainly don't fault WotC for pursuing litigation. BUT, with this new stance, they're currently not even giving themselves a CHANCE...

    Age of Worms for players

I agree, though I'll also echo the "Make Backstory Light" method of char-gen, unless your DM is willing to put in the work. (We've been fortunate that our DM works to make recurring character and themes a part of the campaign, above and beyond the as-written AP.) I'm part of a group playing...

How about a deadline to WotC?

IMHO, I think it's more the reasoning and philosophy behind the rules than the rules themselves that have created a schism amongst the playerbase. WRT a deadline? WotC had a deadline for the GSL (much like the DI, but that's another topic); the launch of 4E. And it came and went, until, several...

November '08: What Are You Reading?

Currently, I'm reading "Havemercy"; it's a science-fantasy tale, a quick read told from the POV of the each of the four main characters. On the backburner, I have: 1) The Other Boleyn Girl: My friend recommended the movie, but I want to read the book first to compare the two. 2) The Gargoyle...

A Wrought Iron Fence Made of Tigers

I think you summed up my thoughts as well. To me, 4E is the first edition of D+D that feels like they established the mechanics first and built a setting around it. All the previous editions (IMO) felt like they took the fantasy mileu first and built rules around it.

    Fantasy authors worth the reading.

The Summoner is Book One of that series; a decent fantasy tale, worth reading. If we're talking comics, my list more than doubles!! 8) [I'd support both those choices, and I'd add: 1) Thieves and Kings (Interesting mix of prose and art.)- Ongoing 2) A Distant Soil- Nearly complete (first 4...
