What are you trying to do?
You state fighter/warlock is an obvious path...but it isn't to me. Is it based on a fictional character somewhere?
If your main goal is a dark defender type of character, then why not Paladin/Warlock?
Yeah, the warlock paragon paths seem impossible to get into...
The problem with the versatile bonus not multiplying is that it doesn't increase with level.
Also, is it a bonus to damage or does it change the range of the weapon? Unlike the feat descriptions, it doesn't say it's a Bonus to damage. It's just extra damage. 1d8 with +1 bonus to damage is...
Gnome Paladin with high Int/Cha and just enough Str/Con to use hide armor (made out of the pelts of badger minions).
With a Katana (bastard sword) in two hands, he uses his smites to kill his foes (Cha based). When surrounded by multiple enemies, he calls upon fire to eliminate them (Wizard...
I don't have the DMG yet, but from various sources, we know that the following planes exist:
Astral (home of gods)
Feywild
Shadowfell
Prime Material
Elemental Chaos (home of demons and primordials)
Those seem to fit naturally into the following power sources:
Divine - Astral
Arcane - Feywild...
In 3e, any race that had a free reroll for any saving throw once per encounter would be deemed uber powerful.
4e halflings get that ability.
Yeah, spells are weaker now with the lack of save or die, but they're not that much weaker.
I ran a 4e mod recently eight times for a convention that had a tough undead encounter in it. Most of the groups used pregenerated characters that came with the mod and had a cleric. One of the tables though wanted to use the KotS pregen characters and played with a warlord instead of a...
Seems like a balanced review based on their play experience.
Did you use tokens to represent marks and other conditions? I've found them to be a tremendous help and speeds up play by a good amount.
Most of the mechanics issues you had (weak cleric/wizard, magic feeling nerfed) is mostly...
I've been playing for half a year now and I see bonuses to hit as rare and beautiful things, something to be cherished when you find them.
+1 to hit for about half the combat is HUGE, very much worth it to consider tieflings if any of your attacks are based off Cha/Int.
Everyone dissing humans...
I'm judging Escape from Sembia at a convention in the SF Bay Area tomorrow, Sunday and Monday. I'll probably run around 7 tables worth of TPKs...
I've already run it twice before. Everyone had fun despite the deaths.
1) Give everyone different tokens for their various effects (fighter marks, paladin challenge-only one, warlock curses, etc).
Don't make this just the same token in different colors. Give them actual different tokens (penny, colored glass, rubber band, etc). I have noticed that the same...
I had problems initially with Healing Surges. I tried them and they worked great during play, but I still felt strange about them.
Until I played a 3.5 game afterwards and realized that most of our party was responsible for their own healing and was usually done between fights with wands of...
If you're in a stable party, it's almost never a good idea for more than one person to take Ritual Casting. You all can pitch in for the spell components.
I think people are getting Healing Surges confused with Second Wind.
You cannot activate Second Wind by yourself when unconscious.
There is no limitation on Healing Surges when unconscious.
Second Wind is merely a specific action that allows you to spend a Healing Surge.
So very true.
If you don't do the "find cover/concealment + throw dagger with stealth" routine, you're gonna lose a lot of your sneak attack opportunities during a typical encounter.
