Snatch/Deflect Arrows vs. Tanglefoot Bags and Alchemist's Fire?

In 3.0, this is definitely the case; the bag bursts when it's "thrown against a creature". In 3.5, the bag bursts when you throw it "at a creature," which is arguably different. Whether the difference was intended or not is another matter.

    Drow Rod of Tentacles

Both of which are officially converted for 3.0 in WoTC/Monte Cook's Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil module, a.k.a. RttToEE. :) They were also apparently in the Arms & Equipment guide. You can find stats in http://www.crystalkeep.com/d20/rules/DnD3.0Index-MagicItems-WeaponsArmor.pdf

    Celestial Brilliance

IMC, I left the spell duration alone, but made it non-portable (castable only on an area).

    [Maximized, Chained] Ray of Enfeeblement

I don't think so. Melf's doesn't have a "Target" entry; it has "Effect: One arrow of acid."

    Celestial Brilliance

Actually, the average of 2d6 is 7, thus average damage = 2 per round, thus 10 minutes averages to 200 hp. I wouldn't let the damage penetrate a Wall of Force (or Resilient Sphere), though. And yes, Celestial Brilliance is the most broken Light spell in Brokedonia.

    Zone of Truth

If you want to *know* whether or not someone's telling the truth (barring magical protections or misdirections), you'll have to wait to be able to cast Discern Lies, which is individually targetted.

    Mindflayers - Mindblast

Once per round as a standard action. Mind Blast is a spell-like ability, and thus provokes an AoO when used while threatened, unless used defensively (using the "casting a spell defensively" rules), but has no V, S or M components. In 3.5, Mind Blast is the equivalent of a 4th-level spell...

Question about the Globes of Invulnerability.

"Comes into effect" is used throughout the Magic section; "already in effect" is not. However, to use your example: Yes, a spell comes into effect at the conclusion of its casting time; it also generally comes into effect in some location or area within its range. "Spells already in effect...

Snatch/Deflect Arrows vs. Tanglefoot Bags and Alchemist's Fire?

One of my 3.5 players, who has a Monk cohort, has just asked me if the Snatch Arrows feat will work against such special thrown weapons as Alchemist's Fire and Tanglefoot Bags. To which I thought, "What a good question! Why didn't anyone ask that before?" ;) But, judging from my search of...

Question about the Globes of Invulnerability.

The question is, what does "spells already in effect" mean in this context? Saying that it means itself is logically true, but not particularly useful. Just to remind everyone what we're talking about here: The phrase "spells already in effect" does not have useful meaning in and of...

    Invisibility Questions

Obviously, you're casting Fireball in an empty area because you think (incorrectly) that there's an invisible opponent there. Or you're a sorcerer, and you just fireball each room before you enter as a safety precaution. ;)

Question about the Globes of Invulnerability.

Yes, and I (and apparently billd91) read that as "already in effect in the spell's area of effect," which seems at least as likely as your interpretation. Since our reading would fit with the Mirror Image example, and solve all the "when was it cast?" questions, I think Occam's Razor cuts in our...

    Slaad-a-palooza!

First off, my thanks to demiurge (and the rest of you) for creating this thread. It'll be a big help to me in an upcoming scenario, particularly the Violet Slaad (partially quoted below). However, I do question one aspect of the aforementioned Violet: If a Human Sor-16 NPC is CR 16, how can...

    Sage Advice chat transcript

I was there for almost all of it; the questions didn't come up. I must admit, I was rather underwhelmed. The very first question, unsurprisingly, was on the "hit points when polymorphed" question that the DMG errata and CustServ disagree on. Skip's response, paraphrased but accurate, was...

"Cloron shattersoul" and how to get rid of him?

Never saw the "previous thread" referred to above, but: You've got an 11th-level wizard? Unless his opposed school is Abjuration, how about he casts Antimagic Field (on himself, since it's personal-only), and then everyone (except maybe the archer) charges Cloron in a group? (If you have an...

Question about the Globes of Invulnerability.

"Spells of 4th level and higher are not affected by the globe, nor are spells already in effect when the globe is cast." I'm virtually certain that the authors were thinking of, and meant, "spells already in effect inside the globe's area" (which could include an unwanted Silence, but would...

    Orc Horde Invasion: help/advice needed!

You might want to check out Steve Jackson Games' Munchkin Monster Manual 2.5. It includes a d20 conversion of the Munchkin "3,872 Orcs" card... using the Swarm rules.

Good party needs to "extract" information

If you're in 3.5, don't forget Touch of Idiocy! Sor/Wiz 2, 1d6 penalty to INT, WIS *and* CHA, touch attack, no save, 10 minutes/level. It doesn't stack with itself, but if your Sorcerer has it, he can probably cast it 4 or more times in a row to get the best rolls, which should get your...
