I think it is more that after the disaster that was the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen movie, he's stated he wants nothing to do with any adaptations of his works. He doesn't want his name in the credits or to be associated with them at all. This is what I heard, anyway.

Yeah, that one wasn't great. I enjoyed the ending to FF VIII much much more (although YMMV). I also enjoyed that ending, although I thought the rest of the movie was a bit of a plodding mess compared to the elegance of the first flick.
