    Anyone fooled by gargoyles anymore?

I think you could get away with vague descriptions like "you stumble into what looks like a depraved sanctum of the Evil One, lavishly decorated with vibrant paintings depicting scenes of debauchery, grotesque monstrous statuary, choir benches carved from bone, gobelins stitched with hellish...

Pathfinder 1E What the heck do Roc eat???

I feel that's the case not only for Rocs, but for most big predators in the world of D&D - just from race and looks, you can rarely estimate how wimpy or powerful a given humanoid will be. "Oh, so this one had Sorcerer levels, and lots of them. I wish Sorcerers had to wear some distinctive...

UPDATE: Hasbro files lawsuit - Warner Bros. to make a D&D Movie. AICN

I wish I could downvote posts like this in this forum... But then again, I pity the kind of games you seem to be playing most of the time, so I'll just say: I sincerely hope you're being sarcastic.

UPDATE: Hasbro files lawsuit - Warner Bros. to make a D&D Movie. AICN

I'm expecting lots of showy flashy bang-bang, and exactly none of the things that make D&D great. Namely, unearthly worlds, imaginative stories, character interaction, character development, atmosphere, surprise twists, unexpected results to unlikely actions, and the sheer suspense of the...

Pathfinder 1E What the heck do Roc eat???

Basically nothing in the monster manuals that is larger than a Roc can actually be outfought by one. We're talking colossal creatures here, and most of these are just plain deadly, even to a Roc. Colossal Monstrous Centipedes maybe, but those are yucky!

Preparing to run Red Hand. Advice?

I DM'ed the campaign until about a year ago, here's some pointers: My group consisted of a party of three, like yours, so I knew I had to compensate for low numbers. I started everybody at 6th level (actually, I started at 5th, and ran a short homebrew adventure to get the characters invested...

Pathfinder 1E What the heck do Roc eat???

On real-world eating habits and body weight: note that the larger the animal gets, the less it eats, relatively speaking. For example, mice eat about 10% or more of their body weight each day, while large bovines eat more like 2.5%-5% (hay or grass, respectively) of what they weigh. Rocs weigh...

    best silent image illusions

That's one part of it, and it is pretty cool. However, another big thing is that Major Image has the following sentence attached to it: "While concentrating, you can move the image within the range." Silent Image, on the other hand, has this one: "You can move the image within the limits of the...

Enchanter seeking to overcome Protection from X spells.

Ah, I see what you mean now. It's still debatable, though, since we're not talking about the Protection from Evil spell per se, but about the angel's aura which duplicates the spell's effect. The aura is (Su), so it's not subject to counterspelling.

You can move stuff around within the spell's area (which is one of the reasons why major image isn't redundant, btw). So if your green slime didn't drop too great a distance, no problem.

Doesn't move? Since when can't Silent Image include mobile stuff? It even says "You can move the image within the limits of the size of the effect" right there in the spell description.

Won't work. Ring of Counterspelling affects only spells cast at you, not on some random target.

    best silent image illusions

A wizard in the group I DM for often used silent images to convey complex optical information quickly. In other words, he took a literal approach to the whole "show, not tell" routine. Instead of telling the other PCs what [some phenomenon] he had seen looked like, he drew them a picture. In the...

Enchanter seeking to overcome Protection from X spells.

Others have pointed this out, but here we go again: only effects that grant "ongoing control" are blocked by Protection from X. Charm Person doesn't grant ongoing control, far as I'm concerned, but others may judge this differently. Note that at least stuff like Suggestion (a great spell!) won't...

8th Level Wizard Career Path Advice

Your build and tactics seem really well thought out, and I'd hazard the statement that you already have all the feats you'll ever "need". I.e., standby options that are always nice for a Conjurer are there already (Augment Summoning, Sculpt Spell), strengthening your focus by that much. Feat...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next is a mess.

Yes! Let's start the ragefest already! This thread was just asking for it anyway! On topic: I think Blackbrrd's Starcraft 2 comparison is rather enlightening. Blizzard added some new units during the Beta which they later scrapped completely, or took into completely different directions. Other...

    The Spear

And where do you get this from? Maces were most definitely used in combat, as were spears. In fact, between the mid-15th century and the 30 Years War, large pike formations reigned supreme on the battlefield, only slowly being replaced by musketeers (for a long time still with a pike backbone)...
