    Published or homemade adventures?

I voted that I usually write my own, but that isn't exactly true. I don't generally write adventures so much as outline them and let the chips fall where they may. In the past when I've used written adventures or written my own, the players always seem to do something that the adventure doesn't...

Who Keeps the SRD Open in Another Window?

I only open the SRD if I'm too lazy to take a five foot step toward my bookshelf. If I'm working on some sort of D&D word document, however, I generally do keep the SRD tabbed or in another window for the duration.

1st to 20th with same character

I did run a campaign from levels 1-14, but that's as close I've ever come to that sort of thing. Of course, we could always go back and do other things with those characters, but there wouldn't be a large, overarching plot pushing the action.

Best Five RPG Books You Own

    1. Legend of the Five Rings (Third Edition), AEG I've been with Legend of the Five Rings since the first edition debuted roughly ten years ago. I never played the CCG, but I've always been a fan of samurai films and stories. Unfortunately, that love was never shared by my players, so for me...

    Farewell, my Friend

It's strange that while I've known about the end coming for months it hadn't quite seemed real to me until I read this post. Even so, it's still hard for me to imagine that in a couple of months there won't be a Dragon magazine on the shelf of my nearest bookstore anymore. Or on the shelf of any...

What is the best "generic" setting?

Normally, I would vote Greyhawk. I love Greyhawk and it was tough voting against it in favor of Wilderlands of High Fantasy, but it had to be done. Why? Because of this statement from the original post: "To settle cannon/Edition flames, I'm choosing the last available printing of Greyhawk."...

Sources for month/day names and inspiration

One possible solution would be to use the language prefix and suffix tables in any of the Races books or possibly the Draconomicon. These charts have dozens of descriptive words and phrases that can be pieced together for names of anything, not just people. There's also the added benefit that...

What size groups are you most comfortable DMing for?

I fall towards the shallow end of the pool having spent most of my time (about 15 years) DMing for a single player. In fact, I've never ran a game with more than than three players so I find the average group (assuming 4) a bit intimidating.

    You're a gamer???

Didn't happen to me, but my cousin (and fellow gamer) discovered his department manager and his wife were both gamers. Certainly made his work environment a little more pleasant. Almost like Freemasonry. Only...without the secret handshake.

    Passing notes at the table

I would...but I only have one player. :uhoh: Who is not, as far as I know, dissociative.

    WoTC products, going downhill?

*muffled grunt from beneath a pile of books* In other words, I think most of the "downhill slant" issues come about from the sheer quantity of material that's already out there. There certainly aren't as many essential books as there were a few years ago, but that's understandable by the time...

    Orcs: How Important Are They?

The cop out answer? Depends on the setting. They featured quite heavily in my Greyhawk campaign that took place mainly between Furyondy and the Uleks. With Iuz to the north and the Pomarj to the south it was hard to avoid an orc/half-orc overload. In my current Wilderlands campaign that takes...

    How did RPGs grab you?

Dungeons & Dragons Game Black Box (1991) I was on summer vacation in Detroit (which should tell you something about the wonders of youth) when I came across the big black box with the red dragon on the cover. That was my first D&D/rpg purchase. My second was the Rules Cyclopedia. I ran the game...

    Which "Expedition" to get?

Duly noted! But shhhh...I'm trying to be fair and balanced. :uhoh: That could very well be said for about half of my RPG collection.

    Which "Expedition" to get?

Wouldn't be prudent... I don't assume that Greyhawk will be better than any of the other Expedition books. For a frugal buyer like myself it just seems like common sense to wait a couple of months and get the feedback on Greyhawk before investing that kind of cash in a mega-adventure. I've...

    Which "Expedition" to get?

Personally, I'd wait until August and see what happens with the Greyhawk "Expedition" book. If it falls flat, I'd go with Ravenloft.

Pitch me your ulitmate D&D movie

I can't even make it past the Queen's "We Will Rock You" at the opening of A Knight's Tale. Nothing turns me off faster than a film with a soundtrack that sounds false or forced into place. Think of how much better the film Ladyhawke would be if it wasn't buried under the Alan Parson Project's...

Pitch me your ulitmate D&D movie

I agree on the matter of Venture Bros. and the Clone Wars, but let's not forget Samurai Jack. For a while that was the only reason I bothered to watch Cartoon Network. ;)
