Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil Run Time?

It took us approximately two and a half years to complete RttToEE. Our group played most every week for about 4 hours per game but we were a very distractable group. And we played another game every other week for the last eight months or so. And there was still adventure to go, but the DM...

    Words with Pejorative Ethnic Connotations

There is currently a thread at the top of General titled "When the GM gips you (a rant)". The word "gip" or "gyp" is a derogatory reference to Gypsies. I think this community can do without such.

Magically Equipped vs. Unequipped - What is the Level Difference?

Against a completely unequipped 12th level party, maybe. Against a 12th level party with say 2nd or 3rd level equipment (masterwork stuff), maybe not.

    Has Enworld made you better?

I've learned a lot about new producs on ENWorld. That's a plus. I've learned more about D&D rules via EnWorld. That's a plus. I've use EnWorld to fill the gaps with no game. That's a plus. The focus on "character builds" has lessened my desire to run/play D&D. That's a minus. The...

Magically Equipped vs. Unequipped - What is the Level Difference?

I think it is more like 2/3rds. It is definitely a fraction of the original CR/EL because the gap widens as levels increase.

    A House Rule

Interesting, I never thought giving out 50% xp was at all immature.

    A House Rule

I've always done 50% XP for no-shows (regardless of reason). And I've never had a complaint. Complaining about XP that you get when you are not at the game seems a bit like asking for none. Some players are more motivated than others. They show every game. Others are more casual. This...

    Has Enworld made you better?

QFT. Although I'm working on the "control the negatives" part myself.

A few homebrewed and "fixed" races I need people to look at

So an Orc barbarian has a total of +6 str, -2 wis; and an Orc Cleric has a total of +4 str? Seems pretty darn powerful, at least an LA +1 race. Or am I missing something?

Re-balancing the 1/2 Orc for my own campaign

Same here. The game already has the non-chasimatic warrior race (dwarves). And the charisma penalty removes half-orc sorcerer as a truly viable option.

    Richard Garfield on Luck

To be fair, Torg had multiple other ways to get rerolls (off the top of my head, there were possibility points, drama cards, and the up condition). These rerolls we so common that they were expected against the tough guys. If you tried to using rolling alone to defeat them, you could be in for...

I feel like a hypocrite (CHA skills and RP)

Seems the most sensible suggestion so far. Thanks.

I feel like a hypocrite (CHA skills and RP)

I don't meet people who randomize their actions. My boss doesn't call me into his office, flip a coin, get tails and then decide to chew me out (unfortunately, heads would have meant he gave me a raise). Extreme example, but I have played (shortly) with players who have actually decided their...

I feel like a hypocrite (CHA skills and RP)

Perhaps it is this player vs. DM hostility that is the root of the problem. And I would walk out of a game where players routinely randomized there actions. I don't see a lot of people doing that in real life, nor in the books and movies that inspire my role-playing.

I feel like a hypocrite (CHA skills and RP)

Why do people feel this way? The DM will compel your character to fall when he jumps of a bridge. No magic involved, just plain physics. Why then can't the DM compel a character to accept an offer of a free drink from a super model?

I feel like a hypocrite (CHA skills and RP)

I think it interesting that players want to be able to convince NPCs of things via dice rolls only ("I took 15 ranks in Diplomacy so my character should be able to convince this guy to help us regardless of whether I the player can come up with a compelling argument."). But at the same time...

Players refusing to play within GM's ruling/narrative?

So is this "role-play" or "roll-play"?

    Variant Spellcaster - The Magician

The Magician, a variant spellcaster somewhere halfway between wizard and sorcerer (I hope). The idea is to get rid of per day spell prep but still end up with a character that can cast utility spells like identify, and can still make useful magic items. Base Base Base Base Additional Attack...

Fighter variant with smoother feat progression

I don't think the Weapon feats are weaker the first time you take them. Actually they are quite strong and I've seen many characters take 4 levels of fighter just to get Weapon Specialization. But weapon feats get weaker when you take them multiple times. The first Weapon Focus is very...

Building a Better Improved Uncanny Dodge

I never liked Improved Uncanny Dodge (cannot be flanked) because of that weird clause about "a rogue of 4 levels higher can still flank you." First it seems to binary: if that rogue is one level higher you would take an extra 8d6+1/hit, but alas you take just 1d6+1 from his shortsword. Works...
