    There is no such thing like a 2-way dilemna between "destroying walls and do whatever we want" and "plot-coupon collection". Sadly, this myth is strong and D&D is not the RPG that gives the best tools to destroy it.

    D&D 4E Bioware working on 4e Forgotten Realms MMO

    NWN series is a good (I wouldn't say great) CRPG, however regarding FR lore and feel, it's often wrong (sometimes very wrong). When a lead designer doesn't even know who Ed Greenwood is, don't be surprised ;)

    I would prefer them to be cut out. However, if they keep them, they should be an option (i.e. not like under 3.x where you only loose something if you don't use them).

    Try to do some buffer-swords LARP without wearing armor or shield, and you'll see how important is a weapon for defense ;)

    Most of the 3.0 new monsters built for the MM1. They did a really better job in the later ones. For the classic ones, don't remove them, rebuild them keeping the focus on the basic concept. If you can't came up with different goblins/hobgoblins/orc/bugbear, remove one some of them.

    A very simple definition of Simulationist play is : Exploration is THE priority. So what I said, is that "good roleplaying" can be achieved without having Exploration as the MAIN priority.

    And that's one of the myth that should die... In "GNS" words : Exploration is "essential", simulationist play is not.
