The Gith Are Now Aberrations in Dungeons & Dragons

Psionics isn't nothing but tentacles, which I stated in my post with evidence in the Aberrant Sorcerer. We need to stop circling the drain on these arguments. The default for Forgotten Realms doesn't even mean all FR Psionics are from the Far Realm either. Like, it's not a real argument. There...

The Gith Are Now Aberrations in Dungeons & Dragons

But you're talking taste. Which yes, not all lore published is to my taste. But your tastes are not universal, nor are mine. For example, I prefer MOrdenkainen's take on Correlon, as I don't view him as all that good of a guy to begin with. For the rest , I don't think your point on specters...

The Gith Are Now Aberrations in Dungeons & Dragons

It's so fascinating to me how people take change in D&D so personally. I get being attached to ideas, but most D&D changes aren't exclusionary. For example, making Aberrations default to the Far Realm isn't exclusionary; we saw in the Aberrant Mind UA and publishing that people do want non-slime...

    D&D 5E (2014) What's on your 5E 3rd Party Essential List?

Ok I'm going to back-up some of these opinions. First off, Ruins of Symbaroum is amazing. The classes are light weight and most of your identity will come from the feats you pick, of which these classes get more of. That mirrors Symbaroum's original classless design. The classes are balanced...

D&D General Ray Winninger on 5e’s success, product cadence, the OGL, and more.

Thank you so much for this. I agree with your analysis about deeper products coming from 3PP. 3PP is, IMO, the real meat & potatoes of the D&D scene; we are where most of the innovation happens both in mechanically and in terms of what fantasies are being portrayed. That's because all of the...

    D&D 5E (2014) 4E Cosmology

I don't think you understand what I'm saying. I'm saying make game content, not worldbuilding. That means challenges players can undergo, antagonists players can face, and interesting locations players can explore. Also, story seeds, another thing I mentioned, has nothing to do with anything you...

Blob of Annihilation, actually. Gollum's back and he will get his ring.

The Force obviously originates from the Far Realm.

Ah I did misunderstand, sorry. Is it possible for you to slightly change your design model here and just make all spells require either: a focus, a costly component, V/S, or nothing? Or maybe even further to: Focus, Costly Component, V/S. Every spell that currently has a Costly component now...

    D&D 5E (2014) 4E Cosmology

For my setting of Scavenger, it's a custom cosmology called the Beyond. Its based off of Penrose diagrams, which are theoretical models of the multiverse IRL. Essentially, black holes (or things similar to black holes) can be used to access an adjacent Beyond. Each Beyond is its own universe...

D&D 5E (2024) Testing against the Gold Dragon

The Banish opens the door for auxiliary encounters within the greater encounter. Here's what I mean: Dropping a PC into a ravine and forcing them to use a series of ability checks to get out. Works for lava and stuff too. Dropping PC into a pit filled with monsters, they have to fight their...

    D&D 5E (2014) 4E Cosmology

That's true, but it is only a flaw because they aren't activated well by the game IMO. Ideally, each plane should have a number of unique challenges and story seeds that makes it fun to adventure there. The best way to do this is a Radiant Citadel-style anthrology, where the players have to go...

The Gith Are Now Aberrations in Dungeons & Dragons

Aberrations are, according to the video, now any creature transformed by the Far Realm. Gith fall into that category. Werewolves were human once and now are monstrosities. Most undead were human too before being raised.

D&D General Vanity Frankenstein 5E: My homebrew D&D project [+]

Hit me. Do not rewrite the spells if all you removed was components. Costly components aren't that big of a balancing tool unless its very low level or a very costly component (10K+). Likewise, spells that don't go into the ethereal plane also don't need to be written. Instead, just have a...

    D&D 5E (2014) What's on your 5E 3rd Party Essential List?

"So You Want to be a Better Game Master?" by Justin Alexander. This book provides a huge amount of tools usable in every genre of game, including ways to run a player-orchestrated raid, great advice for clues and investigations, and more. "Forge of Foes" by SlyFlourish. Tied for best 3PP monster...

The Gith Are Now Aberrations in Dungeons & Dragons

I agree that dual-classification is, IMO, the most elegant solution. I think WotC fears it might take up space or be too complex, but ultimately it would make the game feel better and could be added to races too (which I prefer).
