    D&D 5E (2014) Starter set unboxing photos

Managed to snag a slightly clearer one of the Ogre:

D&D 5E (2014) Are you coming back to D&D from another GAME SYSTEM? (theoretically?)

Same here. Ran a bit of 4e, but mostly went back to Call of Cthulhu, and picked up Savage Worlds. We did some of the 5e playtest, but again went back to non-D&D until the finished rules come out (and we'll continue to alternate with other rules systems - mostly Savage Worlds).

    A rant of fiscal insanity

Thanks for your fictional information, that I'm sure could be useful for anyone running a modern crime game :)

D&D 5E (2014) What does this photo say to you? [Project: Morningstar)

I had another look at the photo, and the thing that jumped out at me is that they seem to be enjoying themselves - at least the one face I can see clearly is smiling. That's pretty important to me and my group.

D&D 5E (2014) What does this photo say to you? [Project: Morningstar)

My initial reaction is excitement. I already use a small laptop for one of the games I play in - one document open with my character sheet, and another document open with my character's journal. I may well spring for a 10" tablet if Morningstar lives up to its promise.

    Where is your home?

Thieves' World I like relatively low fantasy games, and one of our DMs has been running a game there since the eighties.

D&D 5E (2014) Reduced Price on DMG and MM on Amazon

Should have said that was for the Gift Set in the slipcase cover. Individually, I would have got £16.25 in total. Interesting that there's so much difference between UK and US - but then we probably paid more for them in the first place than you - £42.34 (about $71) for the Core Rulebook...

D&D 5E (2014) Reduced Price on DMG and MM on Amazon

Well, I haven't run 4e for a couple of years (and I've just realised that I never got to play it), so I'm trading in my 4e books to Amazon. Getting surprisingly good rates for them! £26.50 for the core books (63% of what I paid for them), £7 for MM2 (53%), £5.50 for PHB2 (42%), £3.25 for Arcane...

Now that 5E is imminent, what are your D&D plans?

Looks like the free Basic D&D PDF will probably get used when the D&D slot pops up in our game rotation. Our group were enjoying playing H2, so I might see if I can convert that on the fly.

    D&D 5E (2014) The cost of D&D 5E (it ain't so bad!)

Well, the price of the free Basic PDF looks pretty affordable!

D&D 5E (2014) How much 5e do you plan to get?

I've just ordered the PHB. I'll read that, and see if I feel inspired to run a game. If I do like it, then I'll probably follow with the DMG & MM, and probably not a lot else. We already have more games we want to run than we have time to play, and haven't played 4e for over a year (maybe 2?).

    Used car: age vs. mileage

I would echo these two points. Warranties are essentially insurance - you pay out a relatively small, known amount to remove the risk of a having to make a big pay out. Whether it is worth taking out a warranty comes down to your attitude towards risk.

A comment on weight and mass

Sounds pretty rules-lite to me then ;) I'm sure you've already had this debate internally, and I would guess that the main reason for using imperial measurements is simply because the majority of your audience uses them. Which is understandable, even if I find imperial measurements in sci-fi...

    Ebooks on the way out?

That's the conclusion I came to, after moving house twice recently. I feel the urge to collect and horde, but I try to fight it so that I have room for the things that I will use. One side-effect of owning an e-reader has been that I have visited some of the classics that I never got round to...

    Final Kickstarter page review request

No worries, I was just curious :) Congratulations on funding so quickly. I'm not currently looking for Yet Another Game, but I'll certainly pledge for PDF.

    Final Kickstarter page review request

I'm curious why. Is it because they worry that there may be extra bank charges, they don't know how to find out the exchange rate, or that their bank might not be able to pay in a foreign currency, or something else? Russ, I have seen other British Kickstarters with pound values, and...

    QR codes in books?

Yeah, I'd say that 90% of the people I interact with regularly have smartphones - my parents and one or two colleagues being the exceptions.

    Do spoilers bother you?

Yes, spoilers bother me. I take some responsibility to avoid them - e.g. by avoiding any threads with the name of the show/film/book in the title - and I also avoid giving away spoilers in the titles of threads. I still remember being annoyed at the writer of the newsgroup thread entitled...
