the tablet war is heating up

It's not an iPad killer from the perspective of having comparable features. However, it's entirely possible that it'll take a lot of potential customers away, who figure it's "good enough"....particularly given the price point. Banshee

    Fantasy Book suggestions

Kind of depends on what *kind* of fantasy you like....D&D clone stuff? For young readers? Mature? There are lots of series out there.......but I don't find many that are in the 200-500 page range.....at least not if you're looking for *good* stuff. Steven Erickson's Malazan Book of the...

    Clever spam

Are the two posts about wedding dresses supposed to be on the homepage? Or are they spam as well? They seem a little out of character for the site... Banshee

the tablet war is heating up

I'm not saying that's what's been discussed here. But I've seen the argument made by reviewers...usually when they're in the midst of complaining about Android Honeycomb devices, or justifying lower scores etc. Now that I've been using one, I can say I really haven't been finding that many...

    Guns and Deafening

Where does this stop? Why would guns deafen characters, or deafen spellcasters when a wizard's fireball or lightning bolt woudn't? I was in an airport when they blew up a suspicious package, and I bet that's not nearly as loud as a full-on explosion. I bet EN Worlders who are in the military...

the tablet war is heating up

With the dock it lasts even longer than that.....upwards of 15 hours. I've been finding I use mine in netbook form a lot of the time. Make sure you get a dock with a serial number starting with B6 or B7. The only thing this tablet can't do (yet) is Netflix, and it does that via Splashtop...

the tablet war is heating up

I think a big part of the problem is that WebOS, though having a better interface, had very little app support. Honeycomb's interface may not be as nice, but it has a big ecosystem and hundreds of thousands of apps. To anyone who pulls out the "Honeycomb only has 600 apps argument, I call BS...

the tablet war is heating up

there are a few more options than that. Don't just depend on written specs. Try some devices. I just bought the ASUS Transformer a week ago and am very happy with it. i know people with the Xoom who love it. Fundamentally, most of the Android tablets are very similar. The Touchpad was very...

the tablet war is heating up

Personally, given how little being a Google Experience Device mttered for me as a consumer in Canada (ie. not at all) it doesn't bother me. It might other the maufacturers though. At the end of the day, what I care about is that the Xoom, outside of the U.S., is still on 3.0. The Transformer...

the tablet war is heating up

Wow, that *is* big news. It gives Google direct access to hardware manufacturing as well. I wonder.....Motorola's CEO had talked about pursuing patent litigation against other Android manufacturers. I would think this would be against Google's interest to pursue further. It still wouldn't...

Any love for the Scarred Lands?

I liked both the Rune Wizard and Tatoo Adept. They actually made the idea of creating a Sartan or Patry viable. I loved the idea of tatoo magic in Scarred Lands, and never liked the way WoTC did it, where they were expendable tatoos that vanished off your body. Instead, they`re like permanent...

Any love for the Scarred Lands?

I have several of the books, but have never played. I really liked the more mature, darker nature of the world, and the Gods vs. Titans angle. Among my favourite books were the one about the dwarves and drow, and the one about the Asaathi. I still feel the Asaathi are about the coolest take...

PC threatening PC. What to do?

That's a difficult one. I had something similar happen in a game years back, and it *did* end with one of the characters murdering the other. It ended up splitting the group of players. In this case, it was in a Dragonlance campaign, where a Qualinesti fighter/mage argued with a Knight of...

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder outselling D&D

That wasn't really the point of the experiment. Pushing the button, and having the subjects lose wasn't the point, so much as the manner selected to get to the point.....ie. that by having an authority figure claim that they would take responsibility for any harm inflicted on the "test...

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder outselling D&D

Hmm.....I just don't see it. To make the case that Paizo is underhanded for building their business upon the backs of someone else's design, is to say that Samsung, Motorola, and numerous other companies are underhanded for building their business in smartphones on Android. Or, for that...

    Knights of Badassdom

I've always been way too self-conscious to even consider LARPing, but this looks like a fun idea for a movie... Reminds me *a little* of the novel GameEarth by Kevin J Anderson, except that instead of gamers on earth entering a fantasy world, it's fantasy being summoned to earth by gamers. Banshee

Does anyone grow their characters organically anymore?

Yup. Few of my characters have been optimized. I'm more interested in creating an interesting character, rather than the *best* character. Banshee

    [July] What are you reading?

Has anyone read The Sword of Albion by Mark Chadbourn? It's about spies, Elizabethan England, and the Unseelie Fae, from what I understand. I keep seeing it at Chapters, but there are very few reviews of it. Banshee

the tablet war is heating up

Almost feels like Mac vs. PC again....except it's iOS vs. Android. The manner in which the market breaks down may go the same way this time, as there are a lot of parallels between Andoid and DOS/Windows. Banshee

    Were templates?

Well, the strength is part of it....but actuality, it's that I find the new template even harder to calculate than the old one (hard is relative....I mean, this isn't hard like calculus, but it's just tricky). The old one was straight-forward. Each lycanthrope breed came with ability score...
