the tablet war is heating up

I assume the Amazon app store will be open to all Android devices? Of course, that's assuming Apple doesn't succeed in blocking them. The idea of trademarking something like "App Store" is just silly. Reminds me of my first development job, years ago. Some company in the U.S. came after us...

the tablet war is heating up

Yeah, they've been talking about this one for a week or two, I believe. What's intriguing are the rumours that it may have a switchable E-Ink to LCD display? I'm not even sure how that would be possible...but if it is, it would be really versatile.. Banshee

the tablet war is heating up

I truly think some reviewers get a little biased. I've used both Honeycomb and IOS devices in the store, and despite the "lag" that you hear of in Honeycomb devices, I really find it barely noticeable, if/when it appears. And most of the time, it doesn't. But yes, "snap" kind of describes it...

the tablet war is heating up

There is a factor of personal preference. I have an iPhone 4, and I think, once my contract has expired, I'll just convert it to an iPod, and get a different phone. I'm not a big fan of the Apple walled garden. This was my first Apple product since the late 80's, and I can't say I'm any more a...

the tablet war is heating up

I've seen that commercial though, and there's lots of debate as to whether that's for a Xoom 2 or a Xoom 2 slightly updated for Verizon 4G? There was the issue where it came out for one network, people payed a premium to have it upgradeable to 4G, and have waited since March, and now it's being...

AMpersand #400 Bill S leaving WotC (and others?)

Hah...I doubt they care. My company did it.....twice. Got my manager and his wife on the same day years ago, and then two of my coworkers who'd just announced they were dating and moving in together, right before Christmas, two years ago. Relationships at work can sometimes be a bad idea for...

the tablet war is heating up

I'll be taking a look at it. I thought I was getting the Xoom, but given my habitation of Canada, and the fact that it seems like any updates will be way after updates done in the U.S., at this point, I'm considering the HP tablet, or maybe the ASUS EEE Pad Transformer or Toshiba Thrive. The...

the tablet war is heating up

Well, fair is fair...European and Canadian Xoom owners have been waiting since what...early May? For 3.1.... It's the main reason I didn't end up getting a Xoom. It became evident they didn't really care about the Canadian market. No sense giving them cash. Banshee

    Hanna

Wasn't this out in theatres months ago? I saw it like two months ago. I didn't even think it was still playing. Definitely an interesting film. A lot of the audience didn't "get" the ending. Very different role for Cate Blanchett. Banshee

the tablet war is heating up

That makes intuitive sense to me. That could be the kind of thing they were referring to. Apple *is* a master of both marketing, and making easy to use products, for the regular masses. But I think back to stuff that they've created, and I can think of very little where they were first. Even...

the tablet war is heating up

Now, I've read in a few places that regarding innovation, there are some pearls of truth to Apple not being as innovative as they claim. I'll try to find a link to the discussions, but I came across a few articles where Microsoft, Samsung, and Apple people were duking it out, and the Apple guys...

    I have a son!

I know it probably sounds weird, but I'm totally keen about getting one of those baby harnesses where I carry him around on my chest. Just seems like it'll be a lot of fun. Banshee

    I have a son!

My wife and I just had our first child on Friday, and it's a boy. Talk about an incredible experience! Banshee

    The Witcher 2 Bandwagon Thread

I'm in the Prologue, but I've fought, seen some pretty crazy stuff already, and haven't seen a moment of slowness. Originally, it was set to low graphics quality, but I've raised it to high, and my machine is still running it, no problem. Banshee

    The Witcher 2 Bandwagon Thread

It's too bad you couldn't get more into it....I found the first one a little tricky at the beginning, but then I just got sucked into it, and it was one of the best CRPG's I've played....probably right up there with Baldur's Gate II and Planescape: Torment. It was just that good. As much as I...

    The Witcher 2 Bandwagon Thread

Wow....maybe I'll go ahead and install it to see, then. My system seems to have a processor that is a full GHz faster, and a video card that is two generations newer....but 4 GB RAM instead of the 8 you have. Hopefully that would be sufficient. Maybe with patching and everything, the game is...

    The Witcher 2 Bandwagon Thread

I've purchased it, but haven't opened it yet. I'm a little concerned by what I'm hearing about performance issues. I'm salivating to play it though....the first one was so, so good. And this is supposed to be better. I'm running an AMD Phenom x4 3.2 GHz, with an ATI Radeon HD 5770, and I've...

the tablet war is heating up

I'm pretty sure that has more to do with the popularity of the iPod/iPhone/iPad family that uses the 30 pin connector over any inherent superiority of the format. Apple's got better marketing, and they are one device vs. a plethora of other devices. And they've got the mass popularity angle...

the tablet war is heating up

I've started bringing my laptop back and forth with me to the office. I use it almost as a virtual tower. I've got an ergonomic keyboard at the office at work, and I plug that, a mouse, and a second monitor. Laptop keyboards (and by extension netbook and tablet keyboards) are too small to...

the tablet war is heating up

I suspect it really depends on the person. I only purchased my first laptop a year and a half ago.....I've always been focused on desktops. Laptops just seemed inefficient..dollar for dollar, you get less computing power. But they've got uses. And tablets are the same way. I suspect for the...
