    Always with the killing

Hmm.....I think I get what you're trying to say.....but the difference here isn't whether other species are violent among themselves, compared to humans, but whether other species have organized warfare like humans. In the animal kingdom, there is all kinds of violence among members of the same...

    Always with the killing

Well, I think you can do it with the *threat* of violence. People surrender when faced with the fact that if they don't, they're going to get tasered or shot. The police don't have to actually *do* those things. Then you get the moron who decides to have a shootout in the middle of a crowded...

Are Casters 'still' way better than noncasters after level 6?

I think I've mentioned earlier in the thread that I haven't played Pathfinder yet. I want to run it, or play in a game....but I just haven't had an opportunity yet. So I can't really say whether I feel martial classes are overpowered in the new game. I think everyone's been bumped...

Which D&D Campaign World did you enjoy most?

1-Planescape 2-Dragonlance 3-Dark Sun 4-Birthright 5-Forgotten Realms Pretty much in that order. Al-Qadim was awesome too. The main settings I didn't care for were Spelljammer, Greyhawk, and Ravenloft. And with Ravenloft, I thought the setting was cool. I could just never find players...

    Always with the killing

I did....once. We had a CN fighter/mage, and a paladin. The party was fleeing a dungeon after taking a beating facing Skeleton Warriors serving a Death Knight. The fighter/mage, who didn't like the paladin, was second last guy, and the paladin was defending the rear, giving the others time to...

Are Casters 'still' way better than noncasters after level 6?

But they're magic marbles of archmage disruption! :) Looking back now, I can see where that could get confusing. I'm sure I was getting a little heated at one or two comments in the thread, so maybe I read your comment as more of an attack than you meant. But you're right...the rogue stopped...

Are Casters 'still' way better than noncasters after level 6?

I'm game with that. Different games, different experiences. Usually I tried to balance my encounters so there was something for everyone to do. The wizard had an arcane spellcaster to work against, the fighters had monsters, opposing fighters, rogues were working to get their sneak attacks...

Are Casters 'still' way better than noncasters after level 6?

Thanks Herremann. A few points. You're absolutely correct in 3E that I have less experience with high level games. We had 1 campaign than ran for about 6-7 years, and we got to level 18. On average, we played once every week or 2 weeks, we did a lot of role playing, and as a consequence...

Are Casters 'still' way better than noncasters after level 6?

No offense, but you *did* read what I wrote didn't you? "3-Sometimes (at least at lower levels) simple measures like using caltrops, or marbles can work wonders. A rogue in our party was renowned for carrying bags of marbles, and scattering them all over the floor under the feet of her enemies...

Are Casters 'still' way better than noncasters after level 6?

If you're talking about your stereotypical hole in the ground, filled with rooms, traps, and monsters sitting in those rooms waiting to kill adventurers who came upon them, then, no, we didn't play many dungeons. I'm not saying *none*. I'm saying not many. We had games taking place in cities...

Are Casters 'still' way better than noncasters after level 6?

I'd be happy to try and help....but I think the point that the players in my group usually haven't been optimizers means they're likely not the guys you're looking for advice from :) I've explained some of the things I've done, and they're spread out through the thread. Here are some others...

    Always with the killing

I suspect part of it has to do with a certain level of wish fulfillment. I had read an article talking about the falling crime rate in Canada. One of the things the article mentioned is that with an aging population, it means we have fewer young males between 15 and 25. As such, crime rates...

Are Casters 'still' way better than noncasters after level 6?

Almost word for word, I could say the same thing with my games. I hate dungeons. Loath DMing them. I tell a story, that often has a fairly big sandbox component....I know the beginning and end, but how the PCs get there is sometimes up to the players. In any case, combat is only a part of...

Why Do You Like the Forgotten Realms?

I came across the Twisted Rune safehouse in Baldur's Gate II, and got my butt handed to me. I don't think I even realized what it was at first. Then it became a challenge. They were tough :) Banshee

Are Casters 'still' way better than noncasters after level 6?

I guess my question is....."if it's hokey for the DM to put measures in place to control what the characters do, and whether they can have the 15 minute workday, and to get around the wizard's supposed unkillability, then why is it any less hokey for the wizard to spam the exact same tactics...

How far are we from colonizing off Earth?

Nice :) I haven't said any of this to say that I think the sky is falling. More, that we don't know. We can't predict what will happen. It's vastly more likely that tomorrow, people will get up, have breakfast, go to work, go home, have dinner, and go to sleep. But when we're talking about...

How far are we from colonizing off Earth?

This is a very good point. This is something I was thinking of during this discussion. In addition, we, like any other animal, are adapted to live in certain conditions. Looking at what's happening/happened in Moscow in August, a lot of people died, and one of the things it came down to was...

Why Do You Like the Forgotten Realms?

One of the things I both like and dislike is the "swing" you get in character motivations etc. For instance, elves aren't necessarily all good tree huggers, unlike the core assumptions. You've got ones that are nasty, arrogant, politically motivated and power hungry....and you have your tree...

Are Casters 'still' way better than noncasters after level 6?

And that experience is totally cool. It just doesn't coincide with everyone. Hey, I'm willing to admit my game(s) might have been the freak exceptions. It's possible. Banshee

Are Casters 'still' way better than noncasters after level 6?

What I'm pointing out is what happened in my games. And I'm feeling like certain posters are telling me that what I experienced didn't happen, because it doesn't agree with their perception of what is supposed to happen. Other posters have come online, and pointed out that the arguments being...
